heres my problem i got a dell optiplex gx620 in a trade on craigslist. the guy who i traded with said there was no memory in it but after i left i looked in it and there was memory but from the dell website it said it was the wrong kind so when i could i got the right kind. the problem is when i try to boot it up it theres a amber light on the motherboard and theres no video. the other thing i need to meition is that the motherboards on this computer some times have blown capsaters but there are none that i can see. is there a way to save this computer or is there no hope for it.

I hope I can answer your question are you  referring to capsaters as capacitor if you are you can see the the blown capacitor at the top or on the side   look for smoke damage..
.
Second check the back of the power supply there is a red slider  slider switch check to see if its on 120 volts not 220 volts
.
How many POST Code Beeps are you getting?  if its not booting up you should be getting POST Code beeps if your computer come with a mother board POST Code  speaker, 1 beep = all clear, continually beeping = multiple of things bad memory or mother board or video.is bad.

First off check which slot you put the memory in DDR 3 will fit in DDR2 but won't work. If your running DDR2 Single Channel memory  in a DDR 2 dual channel slots make sure you put the single channel in the slot closes to the cpu the left slot .if you have 2 slots or if there is 4 slot the 2 closet to cpu  insert the one DDR 2 in left slot leave the other one out then see if the computer boots up, if it does then shut down and insert the other one.

If none of this doesn't work part out the computer you may have a bad mother board. Dave

if i get any beeps it would be 2. as far as smoking from capasiters theres none. as far as the memory slots theres black and white tabs and i wouldn't know whats the difference between the two slots. to cover all the bases tried fliping the red switch on the power supply it just made the front light blink.

2 post code beeps mean you got a memory problem BIOS not recognize the memory. Open the side panel take out the memory and reinsert one of them in the slot closest to the CPU make sure the the two retention tang are in the end notch.pf the memory and you got the keyed notch going the right way.

Reboot the computer  press F! or F2 to get into BIOS and see if the BIOS recognize the memory if its not recognize then it the memory. if you're still getting  the  2 beep its still not detecting memory.

What kind of memory you have for the computer is it DDR2 or DDR3 and is registered or non registered, regestored memory is for server computer. go to dell web site type in your model number and look at the computer specs it will tell what kind of memory to use to go from there. Dave.

well heres the problem is that i can't boot in to bios since nothing will show on screen. the memory i got is is ddr2 and the computer takes ddr2. the other thing is that only once or twice has it beeped twice. before i odered the memory i checked for the type. the other thing is the amazone said they upgaded my order. so its looking like i might have to sell this computer for parts.
