Dear all,

I will be releasing PCRE2 10.48 in a few days' time.

In order for distributors to check they are ready (if they wish) I am releasing 10.48-RC1 today.

The RC1 has three security-related patches withheld, which will be added into the final release. The reproduction steps for those three issues have not yet been publicly disclosed.

The NEWS file has been updated as follows:
pcre2/NEWS at release/pcre2-10.48-RC1 · PCRE2Project/pcre2

As well as the 10.48 release itself, I will also provide patches for older releases at the same time.

All the best,
Nicholas

Thanks for this - I've built this locally, and am now testing both the
package itself (and the autopkgtests of all the direct
reverse-dependencies) and re-building all of the direct
reverse-dependencies.

The first of those you can see at
https://debusine.debian.net/debian/developers/work-request/1118937/

[the second is a pile of jobs that aren't easily browseable, I'll
summarise once they're all done, likely tomorrow or maybe Thursday]

Regards,

Matthew

Hi,

So, I've done the 10.48-rc1 testing.

Building it and running the autopkgtests of direct reverse-depends:

https://debusine.debian.net/debian/developers/work-request/1118937/

Nothing new here compared to 10.47 (which I went through previously)

I think attempted a re-build of all the direct reverse-depends, which
resulted in 10 build failures (same number as 10.47); the ones that are
new to 10.48-rc1 were

libselinux [existing FTBFS bug]
openscap [build failure unrelated to pcre2 AFAICT]
https://debusine.debian.net/debian/developers/work-request/1125955/
scilab [build failure unrelated to pcre2 AFAICT]
https://debusine.debian.net/debian/developers/work-request/1125955/

So I think we're in a pretty good place for being able to upload 10.48
fairly smartly after release (I'll want to re-run the above tests with
the actual release, and check a couple of things about symbol versions);
thanks for providing an RC :)

Regards,

Matthew

Thank you Matthew!

That's very helpful. Let me know privately if there's a particular time of day you'd like me to do the release - or anyone else if they'd like.

All the best,
Nick

Back on Tuesday, I said I would release 'in a few days' time'.

Well, the weekend has come and gone. My apologies!

Unfortunately, I was delayed by testing and re-testing each of the backported fixes. Several fixes times several releases expanded into a larger matrix of testing than I had quite expected, and I didn't feel comfortable trusting an AI to automate the testing that way.

I will perform the release tomorrow, Monday 31st, at around 1500 GMT.

All the best,
Nick
