Hi Di. We are planning on engaging and assisting agencies over the next 12months. I am interested to see what your responses are, so I will keep an eye out for information. I made a request via email to NHSD early December for a service report (NHSD presentation by Stephen Ireland stated we could request any reports) and have had no response from two emails – funny enough, there is no phone support number to contact. What “glitches” are you coming across?

Just another comment to make - I have been advising agencies to think about the language used for key word search by consumers. My advice is to keep the language consistent and to have a look at My Aged Care & NDIS at the language they use for services. Without stating the obvious, consumers should also be a source of this information.
Kylie.

Hi All,
Dear all
Di – great idea on getting some structure so populations can find information.
In December 2014 I posted on our website an example of invisibility of organisations. In this example (which was searching the HSD, not NHSD) I searched on family violence. Results were not good. See example: http://www.hwpcp.org.au/human-services-directory-are-you-invisible/
I have done some work with agencies within our catchment – and have basically given them a copy of their entry and questioned if that is what they wanted to appear in the NHSD.
I have also contacted NHSD staff regarding taxonomy (this query was specifically in relation to finding specific services for ATSI population) and the response is detailed below:
There is specific taxonomy under the fields of 'eligibility criteria' and 'target groups' for:
'Aboriginal Peoples'
'Torres Strait Islander Peoples'
There is also a field called 'keywords/searchable terms'. We will eventually make this a defined drop-down list so we can better control what is entered and improve consistency but initially this will be a free text field so that a range of terms can be entered.
From this email, my understanding is that they are building further taxonomy.
Also, Victoria is setting up the Victorian NHSD Reference Group (terms of reference still to be drafted). Unfortunately James Holman has resigned from the position in the Department so unsure where this is at.
Hope this information is of some use.

Mandy

Hi All,
Great to see work being done in this area. I’ll be interested to see what people have done and if anyone has resources or guidelines to assist organisations with NHSD.
We have been working with organisations on NHSD and Connecting Care over the last 12 months. First we established the level 2 user for connecting Care who is responsible for updating the organisations information on CC and NHSD. I visited organisations and showed them how to update and tidy up their information so it was accurate. I provided them with some training as everyone had varying levels of knowledge on NHSD and hoe it all worked.
Also, Kylie I believe the NHSD helpdesk number is 03 9320 9070 so hopefully they can assist you Di with some on the glitches you are having.

Hi again. I developed a list for each health organisation in Wellington Shire of about 20 key words that I searched for some common services that consumers may use. For example “xray”. Nearest service to Sale came up as Bairnsdale, so this was a great example to take to the health orgs. I have stated to the agencies that this is a priority as My Aged Care call centre (from July 1st) will be using the NHSD as a guide to services. This has created interest but not much action.
Kylie.

Hi All,
Thank you for the responses.
The launch of the new interface was due at the start of October but has been delayed and is currently scheduled for around end of February. We have been holding off waiting for this as logically that would be a good time to do a concentrated review process, but the other project officer available to work with me on the NHSD project is on a contract ending at end of June, so the delay is problematic for us and we are proceeding in the interim.
The glitches I was referring to are primarily that listed services don’t show up consistently in searches. In fact, the same search on different days pulls up different lists. Another glitch example is that the export function in the editing interface does not accurately export all services associated with a particular organisation. The help desk is clearly very busy with addressing the delays for the launch so response times to queries probably aren’t quite as good as they would normally be, and problem solving for individual listings is having to be on a trial and error basis.
We have identified which fields are meant to be relevant for key word searches (this may change in the new interface) but this isn’t yet resolving the search results issue. Another interesting little trick is that if services have identified ‘home visit’ as delivery mode, their service won’t come up on the initial list in a search – you need to click on another tab at the top of the results list for the home visit or phone-based services. This is probably a useful way of setting it up for GPs or pharmacies who might set up a second listing for their home-based services, but we are now suggesting that perhaps council HACC services don’t identify delivery mode in this tab, but just use the free text service description section to identify how services are delivered, so that consumers and providers can easily find their service without knowing to click on an additional tab. These are the sort of hints that we are hoping to compile in our guidelines.
Thanks again for your responses.

I also think it is great that work is being done in this space.
We did an audit of our agencies back in June 2015 using some keywords from an agency perspective and also a consumer perspective and found some interesting results of services not popping up in search results for certain keywords, which some agencies have now looked into.
I am just wondering if any of the backend changes to the NHSD that have been mentioned (the update of the Content Management Interface - not sure when this are due to be released/due to go live – was discussed back in August 2015) - will affect the keyword entry and also make the editing of information and details easier for agencies. Has anyone heard anything more on this?
Kind regards

Dear all
Not sure if this is of assistance – but have attached the NHSD Management Interface Reference Guide. http://www.nhsd.com.au/health-professionals
I have also contacted the NHSD to ask them when the upgrade and new content management tool(s) will be released.
