Hey Folks!

We are just 10 days away!  Are you as excited as I am?

Below is some important information about how you can help us create a march full of arts and culture AND how you can help us get the word out in the next week!

Arts and Culture at the March

We don't want to just have the largest climate march in history, we want to have an exciting and interesting march!  Below are three ways you can help make that happen:

1. Think of chants and songs to sing along the way!  They can either be general or relate directly to your hub.

2. May Day! May Day! The People's Climate March needs your help making banners, signs and art!

May Day, the People’s Climate March Arts space is bringing together artists, activists and community groups to create spectacular visuals that tell the story of this movement for Climate Justice. We are making floats, puppets, massive banners, and they need your help to finish them in time for the march! Some examples...

-A huge papier mache indigenous statue!

-A utopian, green city of the future on wheels!

-Painted parachutes and inflatable blimps!

-Hundreds of flags, banners and signs!

3. The Climate Ribbon A Mass Participatory Public Arts Ritual at the end of the People’s Climate March!

The Manhattan Coastline. The bees. Clean air and water. Toxin-free cities. The park. Your future. What do you love? What is worth saving? What do you stand to lose—or, maybe, have already lost—to Climate Chaos? Write your phrase on a ribbon and be part of the Climate Ribbon project at the People’s Climate March in NYC. Imagine a giant Tree of Life hung with thousands of ribbons telling stories about everything we most cherish that Climate Chaos threatens to wipe away. At the conclusion of the People’s Climate March, that’s what marchers will witness and be invited into a simple and transformative ritual at the Climate Ribbon Tree. You can also create your own Climate Ribbon ritual around a tree in your community.

We'll need all hands on deck to bring the Climate Ribbon Tree to life and activate our mass public ritual. We’re seeking volunteers to help gather ribbons at tables pre-march, be guardians of the tree, and assist with set-up and break-down. Volunteer to help make it happen: bit.ly/climateribbonvolunteer

4. Help us get the word out!

If you are in NYC: We have placed materials throughout NYC that you can pick up and distribute all over your neighborhoods!  You can find a list of these locations here: http://peoplesclimate.org/neighborhood-action-centers/

Also, please join us at one of the many super fun buzz building actions tomorrow!

This Friday: City Wide Publicity Blitz for the People’s Climate March

Hundreds of volunteers, giant puppets, and scuba divers hit the streets, subways, and ferries of NYC to promote the largest climate march in history

With just nine days left until their big event, hundreds of organizers and volunteers with the People’s Climate March are hitting the streets of NYC to promote what promises to be the largest climate march in history.

More than 450 people have signed up to cover 250 subway stops across NYC to hand out leaflets and information about the march. The subways aren’t all: on city buses, drivers with the Amalgamated Transit Union will be handing out flyers promoting the march to their riders.

Later that evening, a series of creative events across the city will greet commuters and pedestrians:

  • 4:00pm-7:00pm Statue of Liberty Rides the Staten Island Ferry:  On the Staten Island Ferry, commuters will be greeted by giant Statue of Liberty puppets who are “drowning” because of sea level rise (and 20 or so volunteers handing out leaflets).

  • 5:00-6:00pm Museum of Modern Art: Volunteers will be talking to New Yorkers and distributing the hot off the presses custom-made Shepard Fairey fliers for the march.

  • 6:00pm-8:00pm Marching Band Parade Through NYC: The Rude Mechanical Orchestra will parade from Washington Square Park throughout the streets of NYC beginning at 6:00pm to promote the march.

  • 8:00pm-10:00pm Light Brigade Takes the Brooklyn Bridge: The “Light Brigade,” a team of volunteers with light up signs, will meet on the Brooklyn Bridge to create a beautiful visual image to promote the march.

Thanks,
Tammy
