To all:
I just returned from a trip to Detroit supporting the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization as they received
two UN Special Rapporteurs. Catarina de Albuquerque, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Safe
Drinking Water and Sanitation was accompanied by Leilani Farha the recently appointed UN Special Rapporteur
on the Right to Adequate Housing. The Rapporteurs were in Detroit were on a fact finding mission regarding the
water shutoffs and the effect on health and housing of residents.
Laura Gottesdiener the author of "A Dream Foreclosed" and Messiah Rhodes a filmmaker joined me on the trip
to Detroit. Together they published articles and films on the weekend's events. I want to take this opportunity to
congratulate Michigan Welfare Rights for organizing the mission and to thank both Laura and Messiah for documenting
the weekend. You can see their work in the links below. Feel free to distribute the links. We need to share with the
world what is really happening in Detroit!
