Hard to believe, but it's been fifteen years since two men living in Bellevue Men's Shelter held their first meeting for
homeless folks who were mad as hell at how this city was mistreating them, and ready to fight back!
Since then,
Picture the Homeless has been building power for people experiencing
homelessness. We've been getting good laws passed and bad policies abolished. We've helped completely change
the conversation around
homelessness in New York City, from a blame-
the-victim discussion of individual pathology and dysfunction to a systemic analysis of
homelessness as a function of an out-of-control housing market.
So we hope you'll save
the date: on October 23rd, we'll have a gala anniversary celebration. We'll celebrate our victories, dance
the night away, and honor
the people who helped get us here.
Date: October 23, 2014
Time: 6-10PM
Location: NYC Fire Museum/ 278 Spring Street, New York NY 10013
