Hello, everybody!
Some updates on my localization work. Lately I've been working on the
mklivecd package which also provides the liveusb and mkremaster bash
scripts. Since I couldn't put their po files for them in the same
directory (due to name conflict), I had to re-organize extensively the
source tarball and I also had to tweak the main Makefile and Rules.mk.
At the moment the complete italian translation and the incomplete
hungurian translation are provided. If you want to test your own
translations (provided that you set up an environment for building
rpms), you can untar the source somewhere, add your po file in the
suitable folder and launch
make
make rpm
a new rpm will be created and you can then install it in the usual
manner.
Otherwise, after installing the rpm (I'm uploading in our file
section), add your own liveusb.mo and mkremaster.mo in the proper
locale directory.
I'm going to upload in our file section the source rpm, the binary rpm
and the source tarball. The original source rpm can be downloaded from
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/texstar/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2007/SRPMS.testing/mklivecd-0.7.1-21pclos2007.src.rpm
PS. One minute before posting this I've noticed there is another
script there, named mkchgsloop. I'll localise also that, soon.

Not yet, didouph. I've first made you aware. Tonight I did't manage to finish my job with redo-mbr but now my time for playing is over. I only need few modifications to the specfile and rebuild the package, but tomorrow I have to get up at 5.30, so I'd better go to bed.
So tomorrow I'll repackage redo-mbr and possibily make gettext-compliant the kdm theme and the KDE splash screen.
The day after tomorrow, I'll send all this stuff to Gettinther to let him have a look. I hope that he will have time and especially that he will be enthusiastic.
What do you think? Should I hold the horses or not?

gettinther will be more than keen on helping us pushing thing trough the dev core !
about the kdm theme and kde splash ... what have you done to make it gettext compliant ?
usualy strings just require a region code to be translatable on the fly , don't they ?

I've taken care of two small imperfections in the previously released
files.
Now
- the comments in the po/pot files start with TRANSLATORS:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx instead of /// TRANSLATORS: xxxxxxxxxxxx
- the BuilRequires is just intltool, since it depends on gettext.
Therefore explicit gettext requirement is not needed.
Now the file archive contains the corrected versions.

I didn't express myself properly, sorry. I want to add a po folder in
the source for adding and updating the translated strings easily with
intltool.

Have you added i18n support to the specs?

If you mean a localised description, no I didn't. Instead, all desktop files are translatable, but they are not defined within the spec.

Desktop files are handled trough david's framework so its actually better to do it the way you did. But package description and other spec-specific string should be translated
Why would one install a software he doesn't know what it does?

Yes, I know that, but it's better to do it altogether once these
hacked rpms are approved.
I'm looking forward to knowing Gettinther's opinion.

its not a matter of good or bad .. its a matter of localization... there is no reason to do it before or after rpm is approbed because if the spec is changed in any aspect, the rpm will go back in testng ... so if we do it we need to host the specs for translation or at least maintain patches to spec that contain our translation work to be applyed to main spec for l10n purposes!
