I'm leaving happily my duty without a single regret or sarcasm to someone i consider as a friend an a foreseener in the pclinuxos community but i'm not moving away from this project, i'll still be around to give opinions and comment aswell as doing translation. as a project member, i would like to point out some elements:
I think we had discussed the move from mypclinuxos before ...
The
project has never been dead but stalled till 2008 release in order to
sync with the server and appropriate repository content...
We don't
know yet what part needs to be translated or not, what evolution
(especially in i18n content) will be part or not of the future pclinuxos
...
I really discovered devnet's message with a strong
disapointment! If we work with mypclinuxos ... i'm out (for personal reason not related to devnet) but i'm not
against that method since i think its a good base for working but if we
focuss on web tools rather than on methods and content... we will soon
need to rename ourself in a redmond way. We don't need a PCLinuxOS-Facebook, we need people able to tanslate text strings, able to translate documentation, able to package rpm, able to understand and endavour i18n process... we need to act as one and we must avoid shattering and wasting our effort all over ... mypclinuxos is yet tghe best but a limitated source of "labour" for that project. It has never been in our workflow a key feature for anything but "recruiting members and documentation".
We have a google code account with svn repository, 5 person are registered there as able to upload to the repo. We have a google group interface to discuss the developement of this project ... I'm very surprised that this has never been mentioned on that very mypclinuxos topic!
The non transfer of the sources to that new svn is due to
(1 : my lack of availability for the project and my lack of confidence and trust in some part of this community since my leaving from mypclinuxos !
(2 : a collective decision to have a break till 2008 is out as i explained it before ...
the detail of the Gtalk and Google group chats related to these issues are easily accessible on the google group archive so please ! don't burry things wile they are alive and for clarity sake DON'T shatter everything by pushing a topic saying the i18n project needs to be saved ! It's not in danger or in anyway going to die ... it just lack "aknowledgement from the head"!
I know trust in textar is high but i would like to remind you that about 2 years ago, a sentence was the moto of all hardcore members of
mypclinusos.com forums : "developers are not slaves"... i'd like to remind you that either "contributers are not slaves".
my 50 bucks !
