Hello, everybody!

Can you please express your opinion in this thread?

http://www.mypclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=2303.0

Maybe what devnet proposes it's the easiest thing to do.

Guys

Since it sounds like devnet is taking the lead of the project and since i yet proposed my resignation of someone stepped forward ...

consider i'm no longer leading this project ...

I wish the new manager a long and fruitfull experience with this duty!

I'm leaving happily my duty without a single regret or sarcasm to someone i consider as a friend an a foreseener in the pclinuxos community but i'm not moving away from this project, i'll still be around to give opinions and comment aswell as doing translation. as a project member, i would like to point out some elements:

I think we had discussed the move from mypclinuxos before ...

The project has never been dead but stalled till 2008 release in order to sync with the server and appropriate repository content...
We don't know yet what part needs to be translated or not, what evolution (especially in i18n content) will be part or not of the future pclinuxos ...

I really discovered devnet's message with a strong disapointment! If we work with mypclinuxos ... i'm out (for personal reason not related to devnet) but i'm not against that method since i think its a good base for working but if we focuss on web tools rather than on methods and content... we will soon need to rename ourself in a redmond way. We don't need a PCLinuxOS-Facebook, we need people able to tanslate text strings, able to translate documentation, able to package rpm, able to understand and endavour i18n process... we need to act as one and we must avoid shattering and wasting our effort all over ... mypclinuxos is yet tghe best but a limitated source of "labour" for that project. It has never been in our workflow a key feature for anything but "recruiting members and documentation".

We have a google code account with svn repository, 5 person are registered there as able to upload to the repo. We have a google group interface to discuss the developement of this project ... I'm very surprised that this has never been mentioned on that very mypclinuxos topic!

The non transfer of the sources to that new svn is due to
(1 : my lack of availability for the project and my lack of confidence and trust in some part of this community since my leaving from mypclinuxos !
(2 : a collective decision to have a break till 2008 is out as i explained it before ...

the detail of the Gtalk and Google group chats related to these issues are easily accessible on the google group archive so please ! don't burry things wile they are alive and for clarity sake DON'T shatter everything by pushing a topic saying the i18n project needs to be saved ! It's not in danger or in anyway going to die ... it just lack "aknowledgement from the head"!

I know trust in textar is high but i would like to remind you that about 2 years ago, a sentence was the moto of all hardcore members of mypclinusos.com forums : "developers are not slaves"... i'd like to remind you that either "contributers are not slaves".

my 50 bucks !

devnet, as administrator of mypclinuxos, posted in each project forum asking who were the 2 project leaders and if the project was active. Since nobody replied, he marked it as inactive and wrote a message asking for help resurrecting it.

I forgot to mention him that we have our space at google code, but since it never started, we can discuss the launchpad opportunity, which seems quite cool. I agree that mypclinuxos has very little to offer us. But launchpad can be something more than an SVN repo.

As for the break until the 2008 version is out, I think it's instead better to start to translate now that we are in repo freeze and so we know what is in. We have also the advantage to be able to complete the translation in some languages before the final version will be out.

We should look for new members by posting in the regional forums, but before doing so we must have something properly set up. And this is the most convenient time.

i've read the posts alessio !
don't get me missunderstood.

fine, lets do it ... i just can't get things rolling alone ... i can post sometime to see if people are not dead but thats not much i can do right now!

the launchpad option has been discussed and tested 1 year ago !
it has not been kept as a valid option (browse forums @ mypclinuxos).

Devnet is aware of what is going on ... we discuss about 2/3 times a week on gtalk ... and the core of our chat is mostly not related to pclinuxos. Despite that... we ( i18n team ) yet have a blueprint of what we want to do and how we do want to do it ... we know where we are, and all know where to go but our main objective and the one on wich should our attention get focussed at is "mainstream integration" or all we do is "waste of time" like translating a "frozen repo" as i said in my previous post, we don't know yet what will be "available" or not and if our work will be compliant! Lets just anjoy the LONG hollydays and find a tactic to get the riper gang "accepting" us ... else, i won't translate a line to see it errased by a synaptic update or i'll rather built an alternate distro/repo (at least)

So who is going to take the lead ?

I'm here just for the Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian translation :)
They are very similar languages, almost the same, so i can organize translation for them, but there is little interest :(
