I'd like to try one of these Fleche rides. Anyone interested in doing
one from SLO down to Santa Paula (Apr 16/17)? A possible route winds
down through the county going out through Cuesta College, Shell Beach,
Nipomo, Orcutt, Los Alamos, Alisos Canyon and over Foxen, down Alamo
Pintado, over to Lompoc, maybe on Santa Rosa to avoid the wind, then
the usual route down to Ventura, etc. The daytime part up here would
be pretty sweet, mostly with a tailwind.

Hi Vickie,

I was checking this out on Google maps and can't get close to the 223
miles we need. Are you sure you can do this. I was thinking Paso
Robles would be a more appropriate start.

Positive. I'm sending you a map via e-mail. The route is somewhat
snake-like.

I'm interested.

I see the map and it looks like a good route. I like the fact I can
take the train to SLO. But the nearest train station to Santa Paula is
10 miles away :-(

Well, now that the 400K is but a memory, are there some takers for a
fleche route from the SLO area down to Santa Paula? April 16/17? Mel
Cutler has confirmed he's interested, and we need a team of three to
five riders. Would like to have more than three, since anyone
dropping out sinks the team. We can certainly provide housing on
Friday night.

I will route it as pretty as possible, maybe with some favorite roads
that I really like but don't use on brevets for various reasons
(gratuitous fast and fun downhills at night, etc). Huge benefit for
starting here is the whole route is subject to tailwinds ;-) Of
course, the lower part of the ride would cover the standard Santa
Barbara return, but then up the valley to Santa Paula.
