On Sunday, August 11th, a group of us will be doing a ride in memory of Matthew O'Neill on the tenth anniversary of his death. Matthew was one of the important driving forces in the early years of PCH Randonneurs- a ride leader, route designer, rando enthusiast, and wonderful riding companion to all who knew him. He was killed when hit by a farm truck and trailer while riding on the inaugural 3CR 1200k.
The memorial ride will be a RUSA permanent, the new
Mandalay Beach 106k, route #5146. This is a flat, coastal route which should be perfect for a hot August day. This is a permanent, not a brevet- so if you want RUSA credit you should register via the RUSA website, not on the PCH website. We will start the ride at 7:30am at Oxnard Beach Park. There is a $5 fee for parking here, and you need to pay by card.
This ride will be at a fun, social pace. The plan is to stop for brunch at the Spot in Carpinteria. We hope that those of you who knew Matthew, or those who would like to honor him, will join us on Sunday.
