Joshua Tree to Vegas, Road Closures?

Hi Everyone,
Just checking to see if road closures will be issues. I’m seeing that 66 from Amboy is closed thru December 2024 and Kelbaker as well thru March 2. Additionally seeing that the Kelso Depot is showing as closed. Does this mean there is not a bathroom at that location?

I messaged an instagram account for the area and they said it's ok for bicycles to travel through the closures.

I guess the support cars will have to go around and set up on the other side of the freeway for the next stop?

I doubt support vehicles can take that route. According to the official website, there is a bridge with questionable structural support because of the rain.

Hi Folks,

I just talked to Willie. He called Roy's Diner and they confirmed the barricades are up on Route 66. And the San Bernardino County Road Closures map also shows Kelbaker Rd as being closed from Route 66 to I-40.. So, the question is whether this stretch is passable by bike.

There is a chance I will be able to drive out there tomorrow and check it out and try to ride this section (If one of you would like to do this, please let me know. I'd be very appreciative.)

We are already at risk of losing a bunch of money on the non-refundable portion of the shuttle bus- But it gets even worse if we cancel after Friday. So Willie and I will definitely make a decision by this Friday. I will post on this Google Group and send an email out to all riders once a decision is reached about whether the ride can go ahead.
