All -
I picked up a copy of Crysis on
half.com (where I buy most of my games
these days) for ~$12 as I had read good reviews of it. Installed it,
and 4.5 hours later I just just had to quit because it was 0230 AM and
I had to work the next day..... I think Brent mentioned something
about Portal being "chocolate coated crack".... nice FPSs are that
way for me.... Always one more bad guy to bring down with a hail of
bullets.
Its a pretty normal FPS as far as mission / scenario goes, but the
upgraded graphics are stunning, especially the water effects. The
game play is mission based and essentially you have a "super bio suit"
that gives you the ability to "put on" one special ability at a time:
Stealth, Speed, Strength, or Armor. Each drain your suit power, but
at different rates and the rates are dependent on the activity you're
doing (i.e. "stealth" lasts much longer if you're stationary, or
moving through cover rather than moving out in the open"). In one
sense, the "speed" suit plays a little like the slow motion play in
F.E.A.R (which was AWESOME BTW... and if you haven't played that, you
need to). Weapons selection seems pretty cool in early game,
including silencers, laser designators, and "sleeping" bullets.
I always play FPS on the hardest level so that I get the most out of
it, and have surprises around every corner. So far, its tough but I
am slugging through with multiple saves. I need to customize my
Nostramo keypad now to get the most out of the game and make me a
virtual terror to the AI.
If you're up for a new FPS and haven't tried Crysis yet, I would
recommend it. Much better than QW: Enemy Territory (IMHO). Plus,
you get to kill a ton of North Koreans! And what can be bad about
that these days?
Sincerely,
