The need for a careful and meaningful review of international drug policies has become increasingly clear in recent years – not least because the target to reduce HIV among people who inject drugs by 50% will clearly be missed. The forthcoming PCB thematic session on injecting drug use (December 2014), High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS (2016) and the UNGASS on drugs (2016) represent crucial opportunities for this debate, and must engage UN agencies and Member States in New York, Geneva and Vienna.
In this event, the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) and Harm Reduction International (HRI) – two of the leading civil society organisations in this sector – will provide an update on the latest developments in the international debates and the global funding for harm reduction.
