Hello all,

we recently received user feedback related to decimal number precision and charts in PxWeb.

I looks like decimal numbers are shown as whole numbers in the chart view (at least bar and line), when tables contain both decimal values and whole numbers (PRECISION > SHOWDECIMALS for some values).

The precision of decimal numbers is shown correctly in the table view by default, but they appear as whole numbers in the figure view. The number of decimals shown in the figure can be changed manually with the "Change decimals" functionality, although this is somewhat inconvenient. We ran into this issue in PxWeb 2022 v1 but we have not tested it with other versions.

Are we missing something in the configuration settings/table metadata or could it be that (at least in 2022 v1) charts determine the number of decimals based on SHOWDECIMALS even when PRECISION has a higher value? If the latter is true, is this something that could be fixed to upcoming versions?

Kind regards,
Claudia Bergroth / City of Helsinki

Hi Claudia,

We have received a bug report on this (https://github.com/statisticssweden/PxWeb/issues/643).
It sure sounds like a bug. I can not promise when it is going to be fixed. But please give it a thumbs up in Github or add a comment there so that we can prioritize it.

Kind regards
Petros

Hi Petros,

Thank you for responding and confirming that it is indeed a bug. I should have scanned the issues more carefully, there it was in plain sight! :) I gave the issue thumbs up.

Kind regards,
Claudia
