Hi
This is bit of strange error notice saying 'class string error' when I try to import data matrix in PC Ord 5. The data is in .xls format and works in other computers in my lab.  I do not have a updated 6 version and I am running on Windows 7. Any clues?

Did you try importing the data in a different format?

Hello Saif,

I also work in PC Ord 5, and I have been quite successful at importing excel sheets into PC Ord. Do you mean you are successful to import an excel sheet into PCord on other computers in your lab? You said you save in .xls rather than .xlsx format, one thing I do. Another thing - after you have made sure your matrix is for sure in excel format, copy the entire matrix then paste onto a new sheet with paste special/values. Then on the new sheet first delete the 20 or so columns to the right of your last matrix column and second delete the 20 or so rows below your last matrix row.

Mostly when I have had import errors with excel sheets, it has turned out to be from hidden format characters in unexpected places. If my suggestions do not help, maybe someone else has more ideas.

Cheers, Susan WW

Saif, If it is a problem with hidden characters, you can remove those
by saving the file in *.csv format. This strips out all
Excel-specific formatting. Then import from the *.csv into PC-ORD.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you might check for multiple
installations of PC-ORD, for example when fixes were installed in a
folder other than the original executable folder. You can search for
pcord5.exe on your computer using Windows Explorer. If you find more
than one, this can cause problems with temporary file storage, which
can yield strange inexplicable errors like yours.

See also the FAQs posted on the PC-ORD website, regarding Win 7
installation, e.g. http://home.centurytel.net/~mjm/winfaq.htm#A23
Your symptoms aren't the same as this, but these installation
problems can show up in various ways.

Good luck,
Bruce McCune
