Hello everyone,

I recently received an admission offer for a PhD in Computer Science at York University, Canada, and I’m thrilled to have accepted it with a generous scholarship! However, I am currently 10 weeks pregnant, and my expected due date is in the first week of September 2025, which coincides with the start of my PhD program.

I would love to hear from anyone who has experience balancing PhD studies and maternity or has insights into York University's policies. Specifically, I have a few concerns:

What are the possible solutions my professor might suggest? Can I start as planned in September and take maternity leave shortly after?
How does PhD funding work during maternity leave at York University? Would my scholarship and TA/RAship (if applicable) continue?
Would it be beneficial to move to Canada early, say in July 2025? What are the pros and cons of arriving early with my spouse and two children? (e.g., health insurance, accommodation, childcare, etc.)
