There doesn't seem to be much activity in this group. Either there
aren't many people using PBRT or if there are, they're congregating
elsewhere.
Can anybody recommend a more active forum/group that is discussing
PBRT?

LuxRender is a fork from pbrt with a lot of activity, although their
goals are somewhat different. In general questions get answered
fairly quickly on this forum.
