It's World Spay Day!

Every year on the last Tuesday of February, we celebrate World Spay Day to shine a spotlight on spay/neuter programs across the world. In February, many shelters and rescue groups are already bracing for kitten season. If that sounds like you, there are ways you can reduce the influx. There is no one-size-fits-all strategy, but we have tips to help you assess and build your individual spay/neuter strategy and insight on why your community may not be on board yet.

On this World Spay Day 2018, let’s talk about creating a culture of inclusivity and understanding within your spay/neuter programs.

With an estimated 90 million dogs and 94 million cats in 85 million American households, love of pets is a shared social value that transcends geographical, racial, religious and socioeconomic boundaries. However, access to pet care information and services does not, resulting in hardship and heartache for many pet owners. The extreme lack of access to pet resources for millions of people is an overlooked national crisis and a social justice issue in its own right. ...

Shelter Animals Count
Don't delay! The deadline to update your 2017 data is tomorrow. Shelter Animals Count is an initiative to create and share a national database of sheltered animal statistics. A total of $20,000 in grants will be given away to reward qualified organizations for their data compliance. It's easy to get started and have the database work for you in your lifesaving efforts.

The little clinic that could
Donna Spencer's can-do, will-do attitude and the direction and renewed hope she found at Animal Care Expo 22 years ago have resulted in 160,000 animals being sterilized in West Virginia. Donna's story is sure to inspire those starting like she did, relying on bake sales to fund spay/neuter but seeing euthanasia numbers increase each year.
