Center Street Sewer Separation & Gorham's Corner Mini Roundabout Project

The City, in coordination with Portland Water District, is actively designing a sewer separation and mini-roundabout project on Center Street and the intersection of Pleasant Street, York Street, Center Street, and Fore Street.

The work will separate the sewer and storm drain in the area as part of the City’s effort to reduce Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) from discharging into Casco Bay. As part of this work, the City plans to overhaul the intersection into a mini-roundabout which will improve safety for vehicles and active transportation.

We anticipate the project will go to bid in December 2025 with construction starting in April 2026.

This has to be the fastest announcement of a project to planned construction I have ever seen.

When a utility company needs to get something done, the city apparently moves mountains to accomodate them.
