My wife and I are planning our possibly permanent expatriation at this point. The US is falling apart and we don't want to be the frog that stayed in the pot while the water came to boil.

What else can we do?

I’m with you on that Rosemarie.

As a Canadian, fleeing is a definite possibility, but one cannot change things for the outside.
On the other hand, I am not trying to raise a family, so I totally get why folks want to get out.
It’s a toughie right now. But I’m staying.
(For now.)

James, thank you for sharing, it is disheartening.

I'm in DC as part of a group reaching out to congressional delegations about cancelled grants for street safety, community development, and efficient use of public lands.

One thing that has been inspiring to me is the folks who have been fighting against the scourage of urban renewal since the 1950s, often in tandem with struggles for civil rights. Those folks who fought through an existential challenge in the 1950s and 60s won through nonviolence and moral clarity. We have a lot to learn from their determination and discipline. But they key lesson is that we can win.

The second thing we've heard is that the congressional offices are not hearing about the small projects that have been cancelled and why those were important. In the distractions of the big ugly national politics, we forgot how to keep practicing politics on each small issue. This is where we can make arguments directly to members and demand that they deliver for us. Right now, Congress is not, and that is a stain on all of them (particularly Collins, as an appropriator and our only Republican).

I checked in earlier this week on whether protects (Franklin St., Libbytown, Roux) have been affected.

Agreed about direct impacts, or expected impacts, of small project.

Thank you.

The discretionary grant funding Libbytown/Reconnecting Our Villages was rescinded.

Franklin Street and Roux/RAISE have not been affected.

Thank you.
