I note that the same Council agenda includes three different agreements with MaineDOT to repave some high-traffic streets, several of which (St. John, outer Forest, and part of Commercial) are also on the map of "high-injury network" map.
These repaving projects are a huge opportunity to install quick-build safety improvements and reduce the amount of asphalt that the city has to pay for over the long term. But frequently they're just maintaining the unsafe status-quo. Given how the city is going to spend over $500K on these projects, I wish there were more information about how (or if) these expenditures will address the Vision Zero goals.
