There is a lot happening at METRO.

New bus route to Scarborough, which will also benefit those wanting to go from downtown to the VA Clinic on West Commercial Street.  There will be a public meeting on July 28, 2026 at the Scarborough Public Safety Building at 275 Route 1 at 6:30pm.  We should be encouraging pro bus people from South Portland and Scarborough to attend.

The "public meetings" today and tomorrow on the bus rapid transit project are not meetings, but pop ups at various events to educate and get feedback.

Summer 2026

Now available on Greater Portland Metro
and Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Transit

No Change? No Problem.

We're making riding the bus even easier.

Our new Tap-to-Ride fare payment option allows bus riders to tap their phone, Apple Watch, or credit card when boarding the bus. No worrying about rates or having the correct amount of change — it’s ridership made easy.

With more buses, more routes and the new Tap-to-Ride payment system, riding the bus has never been easier.

Tap to Ride is especially helpful for visitors to Greater Portland or those new to taking the bus. Just have your credit card or phone (with pay information ready), board the bus, tap your card, and find a seat.

Note:

Smartcard and mobile app users should continue to use their DiriGo Pass for frequent riders benefits including fare capping and free transfers.

Fare Increase Effective August 1, 2026

In partnership with Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Transit (BSOOB Transit), Greater Portland Metro conducted a fare policy review in Winter/Spring 2026. After holding public meetings to provide information and gather feedback several updates were recommended.

On June 25, 2026, the Metro Board of Directors met to review and vote on these recommendations. The recommendation was approved, and fare increases are effective August 1, 2026.

Public Meetings July 15 and July 16, 2026

to review Design Concepts, Offer Feedback

Greater Portland Metro is in the conceptual design stage of the future Gorham-Westbrook-Portland rapid-transit service, which will be the Greater Portland Region’s first rapid-bus project.

‘Conceptual design’ means designers are identifying where rapid-bus stations, bus lanes, and other infrastructure will be roughly located in Gorham, Westbrook, and Portland.

The project plans to connect Gorham to Westbrook via State Route 25 (also known as Main Street in Gorham, and Conant Street/William Clarke Drive in Westbrook), and Westbrook to Portland via Main Street, Brighton Avenue, Deering Avenue, Congress Street, and Franklin Street.
