Hello and congratulations! You have either volunteered for or have been conscripted as a member of the PBPAC Ad Hoc Design Manual Sub-Committee (or perhaps "SubCom DM").
In any case I don't have much to offer other than to get the ball rolling. Alex made a great point about cobblestones granite pavers and our old friend Sarah Cushman already has done a ton of work relevant to the "traffic demand management" portion of the manual in her public comment:

I'm not sure how to proceed (whether/how we want to meet, for example). Also I'm not keen on leading this so if anyone would like to take on the convener role please jump in.
(Incidentally I don't have Chris Parelius contact info so he'll need to be added to this thread.

For my part, I'd like to comment on how bad the granite pavers are for bikes. The screwed up Exchange Street with the anti-skateboard treatment (The cobbles should have run longitudinally not cross-wise) and the Fore Street section obliges me to make an illegal right down Market to get to Commercial Street.

OK, thanks for reading to the bottom of this message.
Best,
Zack

Thanks Zack!
Christian and I have been part of an Arterial redesign ad-his group; I imagine that any changes to the arterial design would need to make it into the design manual- does it make sense to combine them?

I agree with Liz, I think it's an extension of, or the first step in, the Arterial Project.
It's also the Key, and the answer to the questions I had about what Christian cooked up in the the Arterial group, which didn't actually get talked about at the meeting last week.

I've added Mr. Parelius to this Email.

I am honored and excited to be a part of this group. Could we kick it off with an in-person meet-up? Perhaps in a back yard? Mine is available in North Deering. (Convenient to 9A/9B).

On a related note... Is this funding in folks' radar? https://www.transportation.gov/grants/reconnecting-communities

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for including me; I'm excited to see what we come up with. I have my own thoughts mostly about the metrics used for traffic studies on the first page and no provision for continious sidewalks.

I agree with the comments mentioned earlier about the stone pavers and I avoid that street aswell as Fore for that reason. I do have further comments but, I'll save them for the in person meeting. Speaking of that Thursday works for me as I'm available Tuesday-Thursday.

I look forward to working with you all. Hopefully we can do some good!

Happy to participate to the extent that I can. In the meantime, I'll triple down on the need for continuous sidewalks -- makes such a difference.

I was flipping through Copenhagenize by Mikael Colville-Anderson looking for something else and I discovered this graphic. Its in kph but I figured it might be helpful nonetheless.

Looping in the Livable Portland workgroup.
The Portland Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Livable Portland have both initiated workgroups on Arterial redesign, so we're combining the two groups.
Christian has submitted a draft white paper for us to work on. (attached)
Regarding choosing a time to meet, please let me know if daytimes or evenings are generally better and I'll send out a doodle poll.
