WENA does not have a start date for this work yet. We will keep you posted as we learn more from the Department of Public Works.
Dear Neighbor:
The Portland Department of Public Works would like to inform you of some impending signal work at the intersection of State Street and Pine Street. The City of Portland’s Department of Public Works will be installing new traffic signal equipment on State Street at the Pine Street intersection as well as removing the existing flashing beacons. This change, which will provide a red light to traffic when pedestrians cross at this location, represents the City’s ongoing commitment to creating a more walkable and accessible urban environment in keeping with the City’s Vision Zero strategy. Additionally, it will allow for enhancements, such as the future two-way reversion project for this street.
This project includes excavating, pouring a signal foundation and reconstructing the existing brick sidewalk; the sidewalk will be shut down for roughly 48 hours when the Contractor begins excavation. This work also includes pouring the signal foundation as well as installing conduit under State Street resulting in some traffic delays.
This project is being managed by the Portland Department of Public Works. Please let us know if you have any questions, special needs or scheduling concerns regarding this project. Please contact Jeremiah Bartlett at jbar...@portlandmaine.gov with any questions or comments. We recognize the impacts that construction projects have and appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve the signal and pedestrian infrastructure in your neighborhood.
