So I call Pacfreakinhell to ask about my inability to post messages.
Ok ok, you can all stop laughing now. The person I, got first of all
didn't know what a news server was, she kept wanting me to check to
make sure I was using
postoffice.pacbell.net and
mail.pacbell.net. I
kept telling her this was a news problem and my mail was fine right
now. She put me on hold for awhile, perhaps to check a manual, get
lunch, pickup some dry cleaning, or heaven only knows what and comes
back to tell me she doesn't know what server I should be using to
connect. I said well, I'm using both
news.pacbell.net and
news.sf.sbcglobal.net because I was checking to see if I could post to
either. (I can't) Again, she goes away, guess her car needed
detailing, and comes back wanting to know what page I post to. I try
to explain that I don't post to a page but through my newsreader. She
didn't know there was a way to access newsgroups outside of a webpage.
i.e. had never heard of getting news through nn, rn, Outlook Express,
or any of the other news readers available. She again puts me on hold
and then comes back to say "we don't support newsgroups". I had to
know, "Well, who does support them then?" I ask her. To which she
replied, "Well, nobody, really." I thought to myself, well isn't that
an understatement. She continued to say that there was nothing wrong
with the servers, that if I could pull the "page" off the server (I
assume she means if I can get headers and read posts) it was working
and the problem was on my end and that ended their support commitment.
She re-emphasized that they only support the servers and not a persons
ability to post or read posts. She then started to attempt to
patronize me by telling me she understood that this was complicated
and difficult to understand. I said it was very simple to understand.
Pacbell supports the server. The server is what controls dissemination
of posts. The server is not disseminating the posts. The server is
broken. The server needs support. Pacbell supports the server. Full
cycle back to her. She then tells me that they aren't going to do
anything and that I don't understand. I replied very calmly, I
understand completely, Pacbell does not offer support. Thank you.
Soooo... guess that's that.
