Xmind supports mind maps, logic charts, brace maps, organization charts, tree structure, timelines, fishbone diagrams, tree tables, and matrix. Normally, it is used by businesses and students for knowledge management, learning aid, meeting minutes, presentations, etc. The application offers various modes for distraction-free entry and smooth workflow. It is currently available on all platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS/iPadOS, Android, and Web.
Prior to XMind 8 (included), the application is based on Eclipse Rich Client Platform 3.4 for its shell and Eclipse Graphical Editing Framework for its core editors. It depends on Java Runtime Environment 5.0 and later.
An Xmind workbook may contain more than one sheet, as in spreadsheet software. Each sheet may contain multiple topics, including one central topic, multiple main topics and multiple floating topics. Various structures can be inserted in one mind map, allowing the mind map to visualize information in different ways.
The latest .xmind file format implementing Xmind Workbooks consists of a ZIP compressed archive containing an JSON document for contents, a .png image file for thumbnails, and some directories for attachments. The file format is open and based on some principles of OpenDocument/OfficeOpenXML.
I prefer to have a plugin similar to excalidraw developed by @zsviczian . So that I can both edit and embed xmind files within my obsidian vault without going outside. Anyway for now at least I am in need of the functionality of embedding my existing .xmind files. It would be a great help if someone could help me in this. And I think this will be helpful for many users.
This is a great solution. I will consider using this for any simple mindmap. But xmind has some extra features such as floating Topic, Different types of Tree Diagrams and Styles. Can customize the look and feel to highlight important stuffs. And also can fold the nodes when not required to see it fully. So I like to have something for xmind.
It would be nice to be able to store xmind documents and launch them from devonthink. The xmind documents contain a small preview image of the map that could be shown in devonthink, and the contents are text/xml so indexing in devonthink might be possible?
The XMind file format appears to be a ZIP based format and as such can be read by FileLocator Pro. Open Configuration -> Extensions -> Compressed Document Raw Data Reader Settings and add the xmind extension to the list of ZIP based file formats.
Generally for less well known formats such as XMind we rely on 3rd party IFilters to read the file format, have a look in the Configuration ->Extensions -> IFilter Settings to see if you have an xmind IFilter installed.
There is a a way to get back Xmind8. Use this link If you want more functionality (see comparison) you can pay a one time fee and get the xmind8pro or get the nicer Xmind2022 and pay with subscription.
Don't let the clumssy clicks lag you behind from reading mind maps in attachments from colleagues, friends or partners. XMind makes browse mind maps in attachment easier and faster. With a simple click, it turns the attached mind maps into an immersive browse space where you can view topics, generate ideas and stay focused as always. With XMind you can:Fast and Time-saving - click and open .xmind file directly in a new tab without extra steps.Never Miss a Single Detail - zoom in for a crystal clear view for every character, and zoom out for a general idea.Safe and Secure - mind maps can be viewed personally without worrying document leakage. All this happens with XMind, where you can focus on what matters most and capture inspiration at a blink of an eye.
