The first time that I learned about Chidorigafuchi was from a picture that my Tokyo tour guide friend posted on Facebook. I was so impressed by the photo that I ran to the very same spot less than 24 hours later to see if the gorgeous photo that I had seen could possibly be real. Chidorigafuchi is definitely well-known by Tokyoites for its picture-perfect views of the cherry blossom trees leaning their branches over the moat and the unique experience of getting into rowing a boat in said moat with your friends and family under the blossoms. If you do want to get a rowboat, please come as early in the day as possible and get in line, as this is a very popular experience. Another special bonus with Chidorigafuchi is that the area gets lit up at night to allow visitors to get special night views of the cherry blossoms, upping the romantic factor even more!

Like Chidorigafuchi, the Naka Meguro area in western Tokyo offers a wonderful walking experience along the water with the cherry blossoms also beautifully lit up at night. While there are a few places to sit along the river, space is also extremely limited in Naka Meguro for picnics under the cherry blossoms. However, Naka Meguro knows how to throw a street party, offering visitors several blocks of food stalls serving up sake, beer, wine, a large amount of Turkish kebabs, and a large variety of different local foods. There are also several restaurants both on and off the main river walk, making the Meguro River walk here the best place in Tokyo for checking out cherry blossoms and seeing the beautiful lanterns in the evening, while also feeding your stomach and getting plenty to drink along the way! The foodie in me loves this cherry blossom experience year after year.

One thing to note is that the weekends can be especially crowded in Naka Meguro during cherry blossom week. The food and drink stalls also close down between 9-10pm on the weeknights and may be open no later than 10pm on the weekends. To have a less crowded experience, it may be best to visit on a weeknight if you can. The weekdays are especially pleasant for seeing the gorgeous trees and stopping in a nice cafe with less crowds.

These days, the police do try to encourage most cherry blossom revelers to leave Yoyogi Park after dark, but many tend to hang around and you may find yourself with more great stories to take home if you do stay after dark.

After a very enjoyable day reporting from Onomichi where I found the blossoms still looking very beautiful but nearing the end of best viewing, I today visited three sites in and around Kobe to see how things were progressing there.

In a bit of a turnaround from my last couple of days on the road, today turned out to be a beautiful sunny day, with enjoyable blossoms at all three spots despite the season beginning to wind down - with the exception of the Sumaura Sanjo Yuen Park where higher elevation has slowed things down by a day or two, petals are beginning to pile up on the ground and branches beginning to visibly thin out, making it clear that time is quickly running out to get an enjoyable viewing experience.

I began my day at Sumaura, a seaside park to the southwest of the city center with around 1000 cherry blossom trees. While still pleasant to look at, the blossoms here were already noticeably past their peak, with many already entirely without petals. From here on, just 1-2 days remain to catch the end of the season here.

After exploring the park, I took a quick detour up the nearby ropeway to the Sumaura Sanjo Yuen Park, a quaint little amusement park located close to the peak of nearby Mount Hachibusa, with some spectacular views out across the city and Osaka Bay. Here the blossoms were still just in full bloom, with at most 1-2 days remaining to enjoy them at their best before they too begin to decline.

Moving on from Sumaura, my second stop today was at Shukugawa Park, a pleasant riverside park stretching 2.8 kilometers along the Shukugawa River and a popular cherry blossom viewing spot among locals in Kobe's neighboring city of Nishinomiya. Out of all the spots I visited so far this season this was by far the most festive - with lots of people to be seen enjoying picnics or snapping pictures.

Here, the overall look of the blossom was just slightly fuller and more attractive than at Sumaura's ground level park, with the fullest branches generally to be found towards the northern end. That being said, the blossoms are clearly beginning to disappear with just a few days remaining to enjoy the last of the season.

My final stop of the day was along the Mukogawa Cherry Blossom Corridor, a double row of cherry blossom trees following the Mukogawa River north from Sanda City. This was another satisfying visit, with the blossom perhaps a day behind Shukugawa and looking slightly fresher, albeit with green leaves beginning to show through and petals beginning to shed.

Homemade peanut butter blossoms are the quintessential Christmas cookie and trademark of any holiday cookie tray. My classic recipe yields soft, peanut buttery, and easy-to-make festive cookies!

Chill the dough for at least 1 hour to help solidify it, which helps guarantee your peanut butter blossoms will hold shape in the oven. Cold dough is also easier to portion and roll. After the dough chills, roll into 1 heaping Tablespoon balls and then roll each in sugar or sanding sugar sprinkles:

Recipe turned out great. Followed it precisely except used chunky peanut butter because that is all I had on had. Had never heard of putting in freezer after applying the kisses to make them set and that tured out well too.

Sally, these are amazing!!! I previously used two other website recipes and they were terrible. I should have come here to you first! You ARE, after all, the GURU of all baking! Those other two recipes created hard Kisses and flat cookies. Your recipe, on the other hand, was absolute perfection! Picture perfect! I have never made a more beautiful cookie! I did use peanut butter I ground here at home and they still came out absolutely beautiful! I did not freeze the cookies but instead froze the kisses before I put them on the warm cookies which worked like magic. Thank you for all these amazing recipes, particularly this one!

The recipe is good however when you take the cookies out of the oven let them cool a bit then put a kiss right on them. best to refrigerate the kiss and not the batter. when the cookie is still warm and soft place the kiss on.

Not sure what these reviews are on about- these cookies turned out great. Followed recipe exact however, I used organic creamy peanut butter (slightly more runny) my cookies crumbled slightly but were extremely soft and just peanut butter chocolate goodness. I did let my cookie dough chill in the fridge for two days prior to baking (cookie day round one wore me out) but cookies turned out deliciously! I also did not set in freezer (I like when the kisses get stuck to the cookie with a little melty action!) Added to my yearly holiday rotation!

This classic Peanut Butter Blossom cookie is one that everyone seems to love. A peanut butter cookie decorated with a sweet chocolate kiss. It is simply irresistible! If you like these you will also like my Red Velvet Peanut Butter Blossoms as well as my perfect Sugar Cookie Recipe!

Homestead Recipes is a book about comfort food! The best kind in my opinion. This book has you covered with recipes for all types of meals, with chapters for breakfast, casseroles, soups, appetizers, ground beef, chicken, pork, vegetables, salads, bars, desserts, and cookies.

Almond trees are one of the first ones to bloom and a sign that spring is coming to California. In this blogpost, I give you all the details about where to find the best and most enchanting almond blossoms in California.

Mid-February to mid-March is the best time to see almond blossoms in California. How do you know for sure that the almond orchards are in full bloom? One sure shot is to search on Instagram using geotags. I also like to search on Google and Yelp for recent reviews and photos.
