Dan Bi is a high school senior who has given up on math. On the day she is about to take the KSAT for college, she is transported back into the past during a freak rain shower. She finds herself hundreds of years in the past at the height of the Joseon Kingdom, which is suffering from a severe drought. She encounters King Lee Do who yearns to learn advanced mathematics and falls in love with him. This is a romance that transcends space and time with two lovers who come to know each other on a deeper level.(Source: MBC) Edit Translation
1. I love whenever Lee Do hugs Dan Bi. Can you imagine being hugged by a man wearing king clothes (sr idk how to call his clothes T.T)? such coziness and warmness omg? And the way she looks so little and vulnerable in his arms? Can't help but awwwww
2. I love the natural cuteness and expressions of Kim Seul Gi. She played a minor role in Reply 1994, as Trash's cousin. She didn't look pretty but somehow I can feel her cuteness and some special qualities that can make her shine in the future. Now it comes true yayy. Now that she pairs up with Doo Joon. This natural and unique cuteness of theirs? So refreshing v
Yes to all the points you raised about Splash Splash! I did love the hugs that Lee Do gave Dan Bi, and part of that appeal is just how tiny she is, in his arms. Makes him come across as so strong and so protective, which totally ignites my swoon.
As for the music montages, I think it was a matter of lens. In my head, I thought of this as Sungkyunkwan Scandal-meets-Rooftop Prince, with a touch of Tree for context. I actually really enjoyed the MV-esque sequences coz I loved the incongruence of the modern music scoring the Joseon setting.
Overall, I really enjoyed myself here. Thanks to @the-unholy-love for the rec. The first episode especially was really strong. The main couple had sweet chemistry and the king character was really funny and endearing.
To sum it up, Jang Danbi, a high school senior, is about to take her CSAT. Instead, she runs away and inadvertently travels back in time to 15th century Joseon just as King Sejong and his court are performing a rain-calling ritual to end a three-year drought. She passes herself off as a eunuch and offers up her mediocre math skills to the King to save herself, quickly becoming his confidante. She eventually falls in love with him and helps him reform Joseon using her 21st century high school education.
Conclusion
Overall, Splash Splash Love is a cute drama that makes the simplest things look enchanting. The acting is great as the characters did much more than read their lines. It was lovely to see Seul Gi and Doojoon sincerely engage themselves into characters. They gave out a touching and meaningful performance and deserve a heap of credit for their efforts in a mere drama special. However, Splash Splash Love could have been better in terms of showing the relationship between Dan Bi and her mother. Also, despite the story being centered on the heroine, it would have been good to offer more background about the mysterious, present day Lee Doo. Splash Splash Love would be recommended for drama viewers who crave for a fluffy and entertaining drama that brings a smile to the face.
And there she meets and falls in love with none other than the king himself! And this king happens to be the king that invented Hangul! So that all plays a part of the story. And it's kind of awesome. A cute little mix of a true history story along with a crazy silly fantasy and love story. It's very fun. You should watch it if you want to give this kdrama thing a try but you don't really want to commit to much. LOL!
The boy star is an idol actor though, so beware. (Idol actors tend to suck people down other rabbit holes they often weren't prepared for, like me six years ago....) He's Doojoon from a group called Highlight. They are awesome. Our girl star is in a ton of things too so if you love her, you can find her everywhere!

Literally in love plus it help that I love Kim Seul Gi ever since her Flower Boy Next Door. Love the chemisty she has with Doo-joon. Wish it was longer but I'll take what I can. Maybe one day the drama god will hear my prayer and let them act together again as a couple in a longer length drama. Anywho, would someone be kind enough to possible IM me a torrent link for the first episode please?
You are welcome! I know I am not really well versed about doing a review since I am new to this, but hopefully the thought has gotten across and you will find the web drama worthwhile, since it did an amazing job in making me love it to this point. Enjoy it! Maybe later on I may also know what you think about it. ?
