The user's manual for this unit indicates that various settings can be adjusted in software such as Powerchute Plus or software for DOS known as Power Doctor. In particular, I'd like to turn off the beeper at all times, and the manual clearly indicates that this can be done via software.
PowerChute Plus can communicate with the UPS and display some statistical information (load percentage, line voltage, etc.) , but shows all such settings as being unavailable. Communicating directly via UPSlink in a terminal emulator and trying to set the beeper to its disabled state results in a "NO" response. The same is true of other parameters that are claimed to be adjustable in the unit's manual.
Is there perhaps an earlier revision of UPSlink with different commands, or might I be able to secure an older version of PowerChute Plus (maybe even Power Doctor for DOS, if it can be found) software to communicate with this unit? (It seems like a crime to descend upon it with a soldering iron just to turn the beeper off, so I hope it doesn't come to that.)
I did not receive any software or communication cable with the unit, and it's unclear if such was in the box originally. I'm inclined to think it was not. Communications were performed with a 940-0024C cable.
A bit late probably, but in order to be able to modify the settings of a 2nd gen. APC Smart UPS, you need to flip all 4 of the DIP switches to the ON position at the back of the unit. This allows programming mode. You need to set the values modified by these switches in software in order to compensate against the fact that they have to be in the on position to program the unit (eg. output voltage, audible alarm operation, sensitivity...etc). Important: software settings are kept only as long as these switches are left in the on position. A standard 940-0024C cable can be used for communications. These units use an earlier version of the UPSLink protocol, so some commands which are available on 3G models will not work here, and some functions have to be triggered differently in comparison to 3G units (eg. turn on command while unit is offline (due to no RS232 communication is possible when 2nd gen. units are offline), ups capability string and query of some register values are not supported...adjustment of battery constant is also different, see procedure here: -ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/11779/second-gen-smart-ups-pr...)
Second generation models were made from 1993-1997, but there are some older (first generation) models made 1990-1992 which support even less commands of UPSLink protocol. You can determine UPSLink version from the response to the capital V command (second character, eg. response 6TI means a Smart UPS 600 with UPSLink version T, which is the newest of the second generation models AFAIK. The earliest made unit I've seen so far supporting the V command (and still functioning ) is a 1st gen. Smart UPS 400 made in 1991 with UPSLink version C)
Hey all. Just a quick question with a slight twist. I've looked on the forum but can't find (Specifically) what I'm looking for. I'm picking up an X reg, 2000 LS430 in a couple of weeks and I'm itching to get back to keyless! my question is though, is it possible to program a new style Lexus smart key to the old LS? I've programmed loads of keys for various Lexi's but never a smart key. Just want to know if it could be done before I buy a used fob. Thanks ?
If you already have techstream then give it a try - if you haven't then proceed with caution and do plenty of homework before buying the software and cable. I bought it and found the latest version (12 I think) doesn't even have smart programming option - that's after I spent days getting the software to work buying windows 7 laptop etc etc
Hi all, I suspect someone must have posted something on this but I can't seem to find anything obvious!I purchased a used Smart card key off eBay with the intention of having it reprogrammed to work with my 2007 LS 460 however, after investigating the cost of having it reprogrammed (I haven't even gone to Lexus, I expect the price to be off the charts) I'm now thinking about buying either an OBDII programmer that plugs into the OBDII socket or paying a bit more for a key programmer so that I have the potential of programming further keys in the future. The price of these is considerably less than having someone do the programming for me.Has anyone got or had any experience doing this themselves that could share their wisdom with me and no doubt many others?
incidentally, I just saw a great video on YouTube with a guy programming a new Key by opening and closing doors, pumping the accelerator etc with no programming tool whatsoever. Is that possible for the Smart Card Key?
I decided to buy the OBDII plug and I'll attempt to program it through the car. It cost just over $13 so not much of a risk. I'll continue the thread with some instructions and feedback when it arrives in a couple of weeks.
It is possible to reprogram a used key although a lot of hassle. If it's a new key, OBDII with Techstream is a piece of cake - you just have to press add a new key and hold it to your button.
Used keys are a bit more work. The info's definitely out there, I just can't recall how to do it but more than likely you'd have to go to the dealer for that one (and even then I think most of them wouldn't know how to do it).
There are some knowledgeable members on this forum and perhaps next time I'll pay more attention! My OBDII plug in device off eBay failed before I could even try to copy from my existing key.i then took the Smart Card Key to my Lexus dealership who said that they would program the key for $77 AUD, however, a previously programmed smart card CANNOT be re programmed or re flashed. If you purchase a Smart Key off eBay, it must not have been previously programmed otherwise you're wasting your money. In Australia, Lexus will charge you $957 AUD for a new Smart Card.
I just bought used smart key for my 2004 Celsior. I took it to Toyota and they got it working half way. I can start my car with it but I can't open the door locks with remote. And also the smart function doesn't work... Doors won't unlock when touching handles or lock when pressing that small button next to door handle. Also I need to put it in ignition switch to start the car.
