Iam about to buy a laptop, and are now comparing Intels i7 CPUs. I will use both AutoCAD and Naviswork, in AutoCAD I will work mostly with 2D-drawings, and in Naviswork I will work with 3D-models. If i read the system requirements it recommends base frequency = 3 + GHz. I have decided that I want a dedicated GPU, minimum of 16 GB in RAM, but I dont know how to decide what CPU i need. Much have happened over the last years with Intels CPU, and now they have P-cores and E-cores, they also have plenty of cores. But the "base frequency" (P-core) is lower than 3 GHz for all their mobile CPU for the 13th (and 12th) generation, see link below:

This may seem a little old, but the basic premise is the same today. For most operations, AutoCAD is only going to use one core, so you are going to want the highest clock speed you can get on that one core (hence the 3+ recommendation).

I'm partially sighted and studying engineering. I would like to use AutoCAD and in the process of purchasing a laptop capable of running AutoCAD alongside my assistive tech which requires 4GB RAM to run smoothly. What are the true system requirements for CAD to run without freezing up the system? Is there any advice specific to assistive tech or visually impaired users? Is there a version which is more user friendly for continuously zooming in and out?

I would also like to know more about this. I've just been notified that I will have a student who is legally blind (however she used an iPad but no word yet on a laptop) who is enrolled in my beginners AutoCad class. I have no idea if AutoCad Architecture 2018 has any features to help in teaching this student.

I am not aware of any specific features for visually impaired which is why I'm planning on running assistive tech eg JAWS, ZoomText, alongside. Unfortunately these aren't optimised for design software, so it's a case of trial and error. They also need a lot of RAM to run so you will need a high spec desktop or laptop. I have tried to use photo editing, virtual labs, on standard laptops, but the constant panning, and zooming in and out causes eye strain and is rather frustrating so I'm not sure how your student will cope with an iPad. My setup consists of a 17 inch laptop connected to a 27 inch monitor to reduce the frequency of panning and zooming in and out. I also have an electronic magnifier that sits on the desk (it's called a CCTV, not to be confused with a security camera) to project any drawings, printed text onto the monitor or my laptop, depending on what I'm doing. I also have other magnification gadgets that can be connected to the laptop, monitor or a tablet. It's a case of suggesting all the available VI software and hardware to your student to find out what the preferred setup is. Not sure if you can customise the layout of the tools in AutoCad, but that may be helpful to your student if it's possible so that they can find all the tools they use most often easily without having to struggle searching as this can waste a ridiculous amount of time. Hopefully someone in the know will respond to our questions and shed some more light.

I always get a rash of questions about what users will need to run the next release of AutoCAD Civil 3D.

See this news item if you'd like to see the official Autodesk 2013 products press event on Facebook.

Shaan Hurley is the Technology Evangelist for office of Autodesk CEO, Carl Bass.

I pulled the substance of the following from his blog post of March 20, 2012.

The official pages for the 2013 products are not yet available on autodesk.com.

Therefore some of the links in here may not yet be live yet....but SOON they will be.

The system requirements for AutoCAD 2013 are much the same as for the last two releases.

The only exception being Autodesk no longer "officially" supports Windows Vista.

To be clear - the install does work for Vista, but Vista is not supported.

System requirements are not a one size fits all.

There are a number of factors that affect how much and which specific resources your system requires. The factors can vary based on the complexity of your drawings, 2D or 3D, and how much you employ Visual Styles, etc.

The requirements are also the lowest suggested system optimal requirements.

Employ them as a suggested baseline.

Your mileage and requirements WILL vary based on to how you actually use the product and your DWG files etc.

AutoCAD 2013 and the other 2013 products are coming very soon.

If you are running an AutoCAD 2012 based product already, "basically" you should be good to go.

Btw.. I'm an engineering student and I'm going to use it at school that's why I don't prefer the Macbook Pro because it's big, bulky and heavy. I want the Macbook Air because it's sleek, light and it fits my bagpack. And also I need the cheapest possible that's why I really prefer the Air Model. (because I'm just a student and my savings from my part time job is not that big so my budget is tight and only around $400-$600)

The 15 inch MacBook Pro is 1.5 pounds heavier than the 13 inch Air, and has additional discrete graphics GPU that is not available in the Air. I don't know if you have looked at the annual subscription costs for AutoCad Mac, but they are about the cost of a high-end 13 inch MBPro, and about $200 less than a low end 15 inch MBPro. The last devices recommended in their requirements are a MBAir and the MacBook.

Thanks for the reply. I currently have a windows laptop which is pretty neat but I am planning to switch from Windows to Mac OS because OS X is what I am looking for in a machine and also I love its simplicity and its pros. It's my

OUr university will provide the software. (autocad) but we are required to have our own laptop and I prefer to use Macbook. Do you have a lik for those recommended devices? bc you mentioned that the last devices recommended is a macbook air and the Macbook. thanks

All Pre-Interior Design students must have a laptop during the first year to use in ID1711, ID1712 and ID1780. The laptop must meet the requirements to run Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud Applications, and AutoCAD. The laptop must be equipped with a microphone and camera. If you own a laptop, please check to ensure it meets the system requirements. If you do not own a laptop, consider purchasing a laptop that meets the digital requirements for students entering second year. LSU offers student pricing agreements for various hardware and software purchases through LSU TigerWare. Keep in mind that all students who enter the second year must have the required laptop and accessories described below under STUDENTS ENTERING SECOND YEAR.

All interior design students entering second year must have a laptop that meets the specifications described below including a microphone, camera, and the required accessories and software. For more information, download the Laptop Buying Guide.

Remember system requirements are not a one size fits all as there are a number of factors that affect how much resources you require. The factors can be from the complexity of your drawings, 2D or 3D, visual styles such as a 3D part as wireframe takes less than one with a smooth shaded view, and certainly the size of your drawings.

It is faster but with a xeon CPU you can run 2 CPUs and get more throughput from multiple threads. I don;t think you can run multiple CPUs with an i7. Seems to me that the xeon lets you build more for the future. One CPU now and add a 2nd when needed.

Everything you have listed should be enough to get the job done. Clean up your machine and remove all malware and viruses using standard free tools. Reboot and try again. Stop all other programs and just use CAD.

Carlson modules installed on top of IntelliCAD or AutoCAD are subject to the same requirements as the CAD engine itself. Please follow the requirements for the appropriate CAD platform listed below and permit an additional 750 MB of hard drive space for the respective Carlson software application.

Minimum Intel i5 processor or faster recommended. Due to the variety of processors on the market, one can use cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php to do a comparative analysis. While the overall processor score matters, the single thread performance is of the most interest.

Please visit the AutoCAD System Requirements page for current specifications, subject to change without advance notice. Please visit the Autodesk summary of the Operating system compatibility for AutoCAD (Autodesk Bulletin TS14078105) for historical references between AutoCAD and its supported operating system(s).

Please see contents above for hard disk space requirements for the respective Carlson application.

Land F/X requires an Internet connection to download content, access databases, and install weekly updates. The type and speed of connection you need will depend on whether you plan to have Cloud or Local Data.

If you'll have multiple Land F/X users in your office or across your firm, those designers will need to share Land F/X content. That means you'll need to have Multi-User Land F/X installed in a shared location (aka a server share) that your users can access over a network. Here's what you'll need:

For our standard IT consulting fee (per machine), we'll provide customized hardware specs and help you get the exact equipment and setup you need. Just let us know in a technical support ticket that you'd like Land F/X to be your hardware and network consultant.

If you follow the simple recommendations listed above, you can feel confident that you have the correct equipment to run our software. If you want to dig a bit deeper, read on for some more clear-cut recommendations for features and specific equipment models to look for. In this section, we'll go over all the tech specs you'll need for the following essential components:

You'll ensure optimal performance if your Land F/X workstation(s) meet our Recommended system specifications listed below. At the very least, your workstation(s) will need to meet or exceed our Minimum system requirements.
