I turned everything off, turned on the router, turned on the Nest, connected to my WiFi, and followed the instructions that came with the Arris. There were steps where it says to make sure you are connected to the Internet and so I think I had to toggle between forcing my phone to ise the no-internet WiFi or the phone network. I recall the Arris app getting stuck toward the end of the configuration the first time and that's when I gave the Xfinity configuration a whirl. After that I ran through the Arris app again.

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? What device are you using to set up your network (iOS or Android)? Which Google/Nest router are we working with? Is it Nest Wifi or a Nest Wifi Pro? Also, do you have Internet from your modem?

Hi - my Airport Express was working well until Comcast changed the modem to an Arris - now the Airport express doesn't recognize the internet signal (it works when directly connected to the desktop). Comcast claims I need to determine from Apple how to set it up differently to work with the new modem. Never had this issue before - anyone know how to set it up correctly?

This is primarily a modem issue. The modem has associated with your desktop, so it "remembers" the desktop and it will not deliver a valid IP address to any other device to which it connects, like the AirPort Express.

After you have waited at least 30 minutes with the modem powered off and the battery removed, reinstall the battery, connect the Co-ax cable, and connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express.

Good morning Bob - wish I had good news but it's still not working. I did everything you said in the last post, left the modem and Airport Express off all night, reconnected this morning, and both my desktop and laptop can't find it. When I use another older router, it works, so clearly an issue with the Airport Express. I don't think it's bad because it worked perfect before the modem was changed. Comcast is coming out again today and I can try with a different modem. Otherwise I can try to use the Airport X as a range extender - will need instructions for that too!

Some Macs running Lion (10.7.x) and Mountain Lion (10.8.x) have also had problems with iPv6 settings.....not allowing the AirPort to appear in AirPort Utility. In double checking, I see that you mention that you were using (10.8.5). Is that still the case?

The Comcast guy just left and basically told me that with the new modems that Comcast is using, sometimes the Airport Expresses work and sometimes they don't, and he didn't know anything about getting them to work. You are correct - I am running 10.8.5 on the desktop and my laptop is running 10.7.5. I haven't ventured into Mavericks land yet. Thanks again.

This time, power up the Express and let it run a minute, then hold in the reset button for 10-12 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow blinking amber light, then power it off again.

Going back to the Firewall IP Passthrough tab, I now saw that same MAC address in the dropdown. I selected it, saved the changes, restarted the BGW210 again, and then finally restarted the UDM Pro. (I never did find a way to restart it other than pulling the power.)

This was the exact information I needed to read. I reviewed the steps for 5 minutes, followed them in order, and had my new mesh router system up and running in about 30 minutes total. The web interface screens for the BWG210-700 were excellent. Thank you!

I setup a BGW320 using the instructions above and got it working so TY. With this device when you scan for devices it shows the mac address and manufacturer, so finding the USG was easy. Mac address for the USG is also on a label on the bottom of the unit.

When I try to connect to the modem @192.168.2.254 from inside the 192.168.1.x network, it wont connect. I have to attach to one of the ports on the back of the modem, get a 2.x address from the modem and then configure.

Thanks for your reply. I finally successfully connected my UDM Pro. Fortunately, I found a more straightforward way to find the WAN MAC address without having to get it from the device list. The MAC displayed in the Unifi settings or on the UDM Pro screen is the MAC for port 1. As we need the address for port 9 which is the WAN port, we can add the last two hex number digits by 8 to get the correct MAC address (remember is hex number calculation). Hope it will help someone who runs into the same issue in the future.

I suspect both old and new routers are on separate IP ranges with their own DHCP service running. If you have one router plugged into the other you will have double NAT and 2 isolated network subnets. You need to disable NAT on one device (prob the new mesh kit) and make it a simple bridge to the main internet network, this way both will be on the same network subnet.

Ideally you need to have just one router on your LAN, probably the easiest way to ensure that is to set up the new Surfboard to function as a network bridge (rather than a router) to your existing modem/router.

Hmm, simple for a network engineer but will be like a foreign language if its not something you work with. I downloaded the instructions for your device, the critical bit will be the operating mode first eluded to on page 13. You are asked what your current network is, if you this wrong then its start again time.

This i think will retain your current router function and put the arris into bridge mode, which basically means its WiFi network is bridged to its cable network. So, if you plug the cable network into your existing router it will be bridged to the new WiFi, which is what you want.
