Thank you so much for posting this. I have recently started sewing again and I never really had a lot of experience so this was perfect for me. I have made so many dresses so far and even a wedding dress and 3 bridesmaids dresses. If I knew how, I would post the pictures for you. Anyway thanks for the help, it is a lot of fun and my granddaughters are so excited. We also despaired of finding decent clothing for our Barbies. Now we need to make Ken some clothes!
All our Barbies are naked, where the heck do their clothes go?! I am going to attempt to make your dress, I cringe at the thought. I am sewing machine challenged. I can mend things but struggle to actually make anything. Fingers crossed

I am getting my granddaughter a Barbie Dream House for her birthday. Went on Amazon to see what they had...saw a bunch of clothes. Now, I could make these clothes...but I really don't want to. So I checked out their Barbie clothes. I always check the negative reviews first...a lot of them getting a bad wrap for how poorly they are made. Customer's even posting pictures showing the lace not going all the way around the dress, pants where the seam at the waistband is 1/4 of an inch off... Found the same on Ebay. Checked out Aliexpress, and there were all the Barbie clothes that were being sold on Ebay and Amazon.
So many of them were the same exact ones that were on Aliexpress. One shop tried to take a pic of the Aliexpress picture online leaving off Barbies head or the top half of the dress. Selling $1.61 dollar dresses for 16.99 plus shipping.
Are you looking to buy contemporary handmade clothing on etsy? There are hundreds of sellers doing so. If you do an etsy search for handmade Barbie clothes, you will get hundreds of listings. Some sellers that I know are legitimate sew matching dresses for Barbie, Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea, and you can easily find these.
Are you noticing that the thumbnails quite often have a doll's head cut off? That's a quirk of etsy. Thumbnails show only the center of the photo, but if you click on the photo you will see the entire dressed doll.
Are you saying that a lot of resellers are taking a packaged outfit, removing it from its packaging and then dressing a doll with it? That involves a number of steps and I'm assuming that resellers are too busy scamming people to do such a task.

One of my best Christmas presents ever when I was a kid, was one year when my Mom made me a huge box of Barbie doll clothes with fur capes and fancy evening dresses. I caught her when she was making them late one night and she said they were for my cousin. I was so envious, and so thrilled when I received them.

My mom was a seamstress and made dresses, wedding dresses for the bride and the wedding party so there was always plenty of fabric. I didn't have a 'real' Barbie because it was just too expensive but I had a Tressy (her hair grew with a turn of the key) To keep me out of her hair,she would give me remnants and needle and thread and showed me to sew the clothes on.Now that I am a grandma, and have two of my own Barbie's I have to give this a try for my grand-daughter.Seems I saw a naked Ken next door-will have to go and visit!! To make this Barbie tulle dress, you need jersey scraps for the bodice and two strips of tulle, each measuring 25-40 inches (depends on how fluffy you want the skirt to be) by 6 inches, to make a midi tulle skirt. Of course, you can make the tulle skirt shorter or maybe longer.

I am a grandmother and have sewed many Barbie dresses over the years. I have used many different types of tulle or netting. They all seem to work ,tulle by the yard or on rolls from Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby. You just have to adjust your gathers to achieve desired effect. Tulle on the rolls makes many festive seasonal outfits. Lol Halloween Barbie outfits witches,fairies,and princesses OH MY!!

Extend the Sophia Dress pencil skirt pattern to mid-calf. Cut the dress in black stretch sequin fabric, omitting the straps. Since the dress is strapless, you may need to take it in at the neckline edge to get a snug fit.
Finish the dress as usual, adding three to four rectangles of stiff black tulle to the hem edge. Each rectangle of tulle should measure the length needed to reach your ankle by four times the circumference of the pencil skirt hem. Sew each rectangle into a ring, then layer on top of each other. Gather the upper edge and sew to the hem of the dress. Steam and separate the tulle layers to create body.
