Skidmore makes available a range of software programs to support the academic mission. Some software is available for use on personal computers, however the majority is licensed to be used on public and college owned computers. Public computers are located in different locations on campus, with our main computing lab in the Lucy Scribner Library.
Current matriculated students, faculty and staff are able to obtain Microsoft Office 365 for free with a valid Skidmore email address. Microsoft allows the installation of Office on up to five personal devices. The license expires when you graduate, transfer or separate from Skidmore College. Note: Non-matriculating students, alumni and retirees are not eligible for this program. To download Microsoft Office:
Skidmore has a campus license for Adobe Creative Suite. In order to use Adobe software on lab, classroom or shared computers on campus, you need to sign in with an Adobe ID account. When accessing an Adobe application, you will be asked to sign in. NOTE: The Adobe ID you acquire through Skidmore will only work on college owned computers.
Skidmore Employee Adobe account request process:
1. Faculty/staff will need to contact the Helpdesk to request a Skidmore Adobe account.
2. Once created in our Admin Console, they will receive and email with information from Adobe (usually a link) to complete the account creation process.
3. Once the account is created, they can log in to their account on Adobe.com and either install the Creative Cloud application to control installation of Adobe Apps OR install applications individually.
4. Users are only allowed to have 2 login instances running at one time. If they attempt to log in a 3rd time they will be prompted to log out of all other instances or cancel the current attempt. i.e they can log in at the office and at home.
Every research-active university has an Office of Research Compliance. This office is a resource to ensure that all research is conducted according to guidelines established by appropriate regulatory agencies. Adobe Creative Cloud is a collection of apps and online services for designing print and online media, video editing, web development, photography, and more. Adobe's suite offers professional-grade tools to learn new skills and take advantage of a wide range of cutting-edge software in areas like photography, office productivity, graphic design, video production, and more. Use ACC for all your creative projects, photography, graphic design, video editing, UX design, drawing, painting, social media layouts, and beyond.
Students can only access Creative Cloud apps through vLab. If you try and use your student email to activate an Adobe app outside of vLab, It will not work. For instructions on accessing Adobe apps through vLab, see below.
Ally is an integrated accessibility tool in Canvas that offers alternative formats for students to engage with course materials. Additionally, it provides instructors with guidance on enhancing content accessibility. This functionality enhances the learning experience for both students and instructors, empowering them to customize the experience according to their individual needs and preferences.
ChemDraw is a chemical structure drawing software package designed to help both the beginning chemistry student and the expert researcher, described as the gold standard for communicating chemistry research. Our license is available at no cost to students and faculty of the School of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering.
Don't want to install ChemDraw on a personal device? Are you using a Chromebook or iPadOS device for school? ChemDraw is available through the virtual computer lab, aka vLab, which can be accessed from any device with a web browser. No download is needed.
EchoVideo is a video platform that allows students enrolled at the Health Profession Schools (HPS) to view recorded lectures, store and upload media, and share that media with others. This platform is only available to enrolled students at an HPS site or within the Music Therapy program.
Like OneDrive, EchoVideo allows students to upload an unlimited amount of media content (audio, video, and text-based files) into a personalized library. This library is private and not accessible by anyone other than the student. The guides below will cover how to store and share this content in a variety of ways.
Examplify is an assessment software by ExamSoft that is currently only available to students in the Health Professions Schools (HPS). If you are not a member or student of an HPS, you will not be able to use or log in to Examsoft.
Examplify can be downloaded from your site's dedicated exam-taker portal, found below. Once on the site, log in* to the 'Exam Takers' box with your ExamSoft ID and password and select the 'Download' option on the next page to download the program.
ESHA's Food Processor Nutrition Analysis software combines an extensive and meticulously researched food and ingredient database with an uncluttered, easy-to-use interface for accurate and comprehensive nutrition analysis.
Food Processor is available to all students and is exclusively through the university's Virtual Computer Lab (vLab). Once logged in, you'll be able to find the Food Processor software on the Desktop or in the Start Menu (bottom left) of the virtual computer.
JMP statistical discovery software from SAS combines powerful statistics with dynamic graphics. Features include data acquisition, cleanup, visualization, and statistical modeling, as well as basic, what-if reliability analysis.
LinkedIn Learning (formally Lynda.com) is an on-demand video learning platform to help you develop and enhance skills to attain professional and personal goals. With over 15,000 on-demand courses and pathways waiting, free access to LinkedIn Learning is provided to all active UIW faculty, staff, and students.
MATLAB can be accessed and used from various university computer labs. Additionally, the MATLAB and Simulink suite can be accessed from any device with an internet connection through the university's Virtual Computer Lab (vLab).
MAXQDA is a software program designed for qualitative data analysis (QDA). It is widely used by researchers, academics, and professionals in various fields to analyze and interpret qualitative data, such as interviews, focus group discussions, surveys, documents, audio recordings, videos, and more

Microsoft 365 (aka Microsoft Office) is a full suite of apps and services to help you stay connected, be productive and creative, collaboratively work, and get things done. All UIW faculty, staff, and students can use their Cardinal Apps login credentials as passports to access a variety of Microsoft apps and services.
Microsoft 365, Microsoft Outlook (student email), and Microsoft OneDrive services are available for the duration of your enrollment at UIW. If you are not enrolled, these services will stay live for exactly one year from the last semester you were enrolled with UIW as a 'student'. Please note, that the online versions of Microsoft products trade formatting and features for convenience. That means, these versions aren't as feature-filled as the desktop or mobile apps, so it's recommended to use those platforms if you are doing detailed work.

With Microsoft Forms, you can create surveys, quizzes, and polls, invite others to respond to them using almost any web browser or mobile device, see real-time results as they're submitted, use built-in analytics to evaluate responses, and export results to Excel for additional analysis or grading.

The Immersive Reader is a free accessibility tool that's available in many applications or services across UIW. It is a sophisticated learning tool, developed by Microsoft, that is used to improve reading and focus for learners.
Immersive Reader is available in most Microsoft apps including Word, Outlook, OneNote, Teams, and the Edge Browser. Most importantly, It is also built into Canvas. Download this helpful information sheet to learn where to locate the Immersive Reader in all these apps.
