A 6-digit verification code is sent to the registered account email to retrieve forgotten information. While trying to perform the account recovery, some users reported not receiving the verification code.

We recommend you log in on the Opera One browser and try to retrieve your Skype verification code from there. It is optimized to run on Windows 10 while maintaining a stable connection through its servers.

Skype, like other Microsoft accounts, requests a verification code when it notices a strange login activity on your account. This can be because you are signing in on a new device or a device you have not used for long.

There are a number of possible explanations for why verification codes don't always arrive. Read through the list of the most common causes, and see if any of them apply to you, or use our troubleshooter to help guide you.

Did your email send your verification code to your junk folder?
Check your junk email folder for a message from a Microsoft account, and use the code sent to you. Valid verification codes come from an @accountprotection.microsoft.com email address.

Is your phone number or email address entered correctly?
To keep your information safe when you're signing in, we only show you the last two digits of your phone number or the first two characters of your email address.

Does your alternate email address end in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com?
If so, you're using one Microsoft account to verify another Microsoft account. This can make it tricky to keep track of which one you're signed in to. When you sign in to the second account (to get the code sent to that email), most browsers automatically sign you out of the first account (the one that's actually requesting the code).

Open a new window in privacy mode. Ctrl + Shift + P is the shortcut for InPrivate Browsing in Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. If you're using a different browser, check that browser's help for info about privacy mode.

Unusual activity. You may be blocked due to unusual activity. Microsoft works to protect you, your accounts, and our services by assessing the trustworthiness and credibility of every sign-in, sign-up, or customer interaction. If your actions trigger alerts or deviate significantly from your typical patterns, we might interpret it as potentially risky behavior, leading to temporary block.

There may be heavy compromised traffic coming from your geographical location and to protect you, we may also block your account. While rare, these issues will be automatically resolved after a certain period of time.

Read Terms of Service: Familiarize yourself with the Microsoft account terms of service to understand the rules and guidelines. Review the section related to account blocks and determine if any of your activities may have violated these terms.

When you see a message asking you to make sure you can receive a verification code, verify or add new security info. You can skip it for 24 hours at a time, but after seven days from the first notice you'll have to verify or add new security info before you can sign in again.

Skype is no doubt an evergreen messaging app. Since its scope is so vast, the slightest of a problem with the application can impact your work. A lot of users have encountered the problem where Skype password-reset email or SMS verification code is not received. In case you do not receive the Skype verification code either, then please read through this article for the solutions.Skype SMS or Email Verification Code not receivedThe reasons for not receiving the Skype verification code include a bad internet connection, Firewall restrictions, server issues, etc. To resolve the problem in the discussion, try the following solutions sequentially. Also, since the verification code is received as both SMS and email, we will suggest solutions for both.

  1. Check Skype server status
  2. Check status of phone network (for SMS)
  3. Check the internet connection
  4. Check the spam folder
  5. Check server of your email provider
  6. Recover your account
1] Check Skype server statusIf the Skype server is down, you will not receive the SMS or email code no matter what you try. So prior to trying anything else, try checking the status of the Skype server. This can be done by visiting the Skype server status website support.skype.com.2] Check the status of the phone network (for SMS)In case you are not receiving the OTP on your phone, then the most probable cause could be the network of the phone. In this case, you can check the network bars in your mobile device. If they are low, try moving to a location with a better network.Alternatively, you can request the OTP on your email ID.3] Check the internet connectionAt times, your mailbox may be open, but you will not notice any email you receive if the internet connection is not working or is slow. In this case, please troubleshoot the problems with the network connection and verify that you are receiving emails before moving to further solutions.4] Check the spam folderWhile Microsoft-related emails do not usually end in the Spam folder, if you ever marked a single email from the relevant ID as spam, then consecutive emails will go to the Spam folder directly. So, search the Spam folder of your mailbox and if you find the verification email there, then please whitelist the same.5] Check the server status of your email providerIf you have verified the status of the Skype server and it is all good, then it is possible that the server of your email service provider could be down. You can check it using free tools to check the server status. If the server of your email service provider is down, then you can wait till the server team fixes the same.6] Recover your accountIf everything else has failed, then you can try recovering your account from the Microsoft recovery website account.live.com. The reason is that your account could be hacked. The hacker would change your email address and phone number before anything else.Is Skype still free?Skype is free for Skype to Skype calling and texting however, there are some restrictions. For users who wish to call on international phones, Skype is chargeable. In the case of Skype-to-Skype calls, if you try group calls, Skype allows up to 100 users at a time. Can I use Skype without installing the app?As of late, you can use the Skype web application to use Skype on your browser directly. In this case, you will simply need to log in using your Microsoft account. The web version lacks some of the features of the app but works fairly well.

So I've read some threads about being international and trying to use paypal. Although I think Paypal needs to update their ability to service citizens of the world my situation is so dumb that it boggles the mind.

I have a home in the US, I have a bank account in the US. I also live in Spain and my cell phone has a Spanish phone number. I'm simply on Ebay trying to purchase something for my house there in the US. Use my bank in the US and send to my house in the US. However when I go to purchase paypal brings up a verification box (why? I'm logged on with my user and password why the **bleep** do you need my phone?) and in that box I can't put my number in Spain there. Why not just "send a verification code to email address"? What if I'm a person that doesn't like phones and literally don't have a phone? Or what if I only have a landline but am trying to work away from home and I'm not there to receive their calls? (that apparently go through a third party who doesn't claim to do calls to landlines.. smh)

This is so dumb it's painful.

If you are returning to your orginal country then you are allowed to keep a separate paypal account in that country as well. So you can have one in Spain and U.S

The only exception is U.S users can add their bank accounts to other countries paypal accounts.

Ah but here's the thing. I haven't moved. As far as anyone is concerned I live in the states... have a US address... I have a US bank account (a few actually)... My phone at the moment is just a number in Spain. One does not MOVE ABROAD just because one does not have a US phone number that is accessible. My land line is back at the house in the US and the phone I have here is a cell of Spanish origin. So although I get your argument that you have to live in the country you are using it in, I AM technically trying to use it in the country that it is in. I'm even having the item on ebay sent to a US address. The only thing that is not US is my cell phone. Again... this is extremely stupid. It's like I don't exist unless I have a cell phone.

Its no different than someone going away on holiday and using their paypal account in another country, paypal often limits the account as their security indicators are presuming that persons paypal account has been hijacked and used in another country. Then they have the hassle of trying to prove its them to get the account unlimited.

Hello Mr.confused and discouraged,I think I am going through something similar! I just set up my PayPal account 2days ago so I am setting everything up and when it came to confirm and verify your primary phone # so I enter to confirm and they were sending me a code to verify,I waited &waited,NO CODE! I decide to give them a call,(keep in mind I am calling on the same device as my PayPal account). I tell her what happened and then she asked me for my service provider and I said"excuse me"?
