I have configured Payara 5 and it shows up in the servers list and looks like everything is just fine like Payara 4.1. But when i attempt to start the server i get the following error message "Error: Could not find or load main class Files\Payara" I'm very confused by this. attempting to start the domain via a command window works just fine. I downloaded and installed the NetBeans Payara 1.2 plugins as well and that did not change the results.

Any ideas and help would be most appreciated.

Also failed to start Payara 5 in Netbeans 8.2. Error given in the output: Error: Could not find or load main class Files\payara5\glassfish.lib.grizzly-npn-bootstrap.jar

What is the solution please?

Hi,

It seems that there's a bug in the plugin and it doesn't handle spaces in the path correctly. Yuou installed Payara server into Program Files which contains a space. A workaround is to move you Payara Server installation into a folder which doesn't contain any spaces.

It may be too late but It may help someone in future,
The issue for me was a path, a path with space won't work until you change to another path without space in it.
Eg:
C:\Program Files\Payara5 (this path will not work)
C:\Users\Aubain\AppData\Local\Payara5 (this path will work)

My two cents, you could also have protected your path with double quotes :
"C:\Program Files\Payara5"
Or use the DOS name :
C:\Progra~1\Payara5

Regards.

Hi there,
here is the error: Error: Could not find or load main class [1.8.0|1.8.0u120]-Xbootclasspath.p:C:\payara-5.184\glassfish.lib.grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.6.jar

I have tried everything.
  • change name without spaces e.g., payara5, payara5.184, payara-5.184, etc)
  • change location of payara-5.184 with different names no spaces
  • if I use cmd, it works. asadmin start-domain. so is this something related to Netbeans IDE?
I'm using java 1.8.0_201 and Netbeans 8.2. In netbeans 8.1, you can't even add payara 5. it does not detect it. but that is another issue.

Please help...

Hi,

This is a known issue already solved in the Netbeans plugin v1.5 - have a look for more details at the end of the release notes here: https://docs.payara.fish/release-notes/release-notes-184.html

In short, Netbeans doesn't start Payara Server via asadmin. Payara Server 5.184 added support for configuration selectors based on the current JDK version and Netbeans doesn't understand them. This is fixed in the Netbeans plugin v1.5 which you can be installed from here: https://docs.payara.fish/documentation/ecosystem/netbeans-plugin/

All the best,
Ondro

I'm sorry, you'll need the version 1.6 of Payara plugin for Netbeans 8.2. It's already available in the main Netbeans plugin portal so just update the plugin.
