Snake Bite Prevention Awareness

India continues to be the global hotspot for snakebite mortality in 2025, with estimated deaths ranging from 46,000 to over 50,000 annually, accounting for roughly half of the total global snakebite fatalities. While global deaths are estimated between 81,000 and 138,000, India's high, often underreported, figures make it the worldwide leader in these fatalities.
  • National Impact: India records roughly 50,000–58,000 deaths annually.
  • Global Ratio: India accounts for approximately 50% of the total worldwide snakebite deaths.

On 29th , a Zero Snakebite Awareness Campaign was conducted at Rotary Club of Ambernath East under the Pashu Raksha initiative. The program was organized by the Plant and Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). A special Thanks to Club President Rtn. Madhu Yadav for inviting us!
Wildlife rescuer head Rishikesh Surse from PAWS, along with PAWS Founder Rtn. Nilesh Bhanage interacted with participants.
Rishikesh Surse provided information about snakes and addressed common beliefs and superstitions related to them. He also explained about various snake species found in India and across the world. Participants were guided on preventive measures to avoid snakebites and the correct first-aid steps to follow in case of a snakebite. PAWS has been consistently working for 25 years to spread awareness and achieve the goal of Zero Snakebite through our educational campaigns.
