A Journey of Healing: 3 Weeks to Recovery

Sometimes, rescue is just the first step in a long battle for survival. On December 23rd, our staff rescued a dog from Dombivli MIDC suffering from a severe, life-threatening maggot wound near the neck.

The dog was immediately admitted for intensive in-house care. Over the course of three weeks, our medical team provided daily cleaning, feeding, and treatment. The transformation has been incredible, the wound has healed completely, and the dog has been vaccinated and cured.

We are happy to report that this brave survivor was successfully discharged on January 16, 2026, ready to return to a pain-free life.

Rescuing a Night Hunter: Our Barn Owl Recovery

The festive skies of Makar Sankranti often carry a hidden danger for our avian friends. This month, Team P.A.W.S. responded to a surge in "Birds in Distress" calls, as the lingering threat of nylon manja (sharp kite string) continues to claim victims long after the celebrations end.

Our most notable rescue took place in Kalyan West, where a majestic Barn Owl was found entangled and unable to fly. Thanks to a vigilant local citizen who alerted us, our team coordinated a swift response to reach the site. We are happy to report that the owl was safely extracted from the lethal strings and is currently under care to ensure a full recovery.

The Toll of Manja

While the kite-flying season is a time of joy, the use of non-biodegradable, glass-coated nylon manja remains a primary threat to urban wildlife. These strings do not decompose, creating "death traps" in trees and on rooftops for months.

Sowing Seeds of Empathy: The Next Generation

We believe that the future of animal welfare lies in the hands of our children. On January 22nd, 2026, P.A.W.S. conducted a special Animal Awareness Session at Rosary High School, Badlapur.

Curriculum of Compassion

The session focused on teaching the fundamentals of animal care, the importance of avoiding cruelty, and how to treat all living beings with respect. By fostering empathy at this young age, we are building a compassionate foundation for the future.

Puppies in the Classroom

To make the lesson truly memorable, Mr. Nilesh Bhanage brought a special team of "guest educators" with orphan puppies directly into the classroom. This unique initiative allowed 190 students from Class 1 and 2 to pet and interact with the animals firsthand, turning an abstract lesson into a heartwarming experience of connection.

Protecting Palava: A Record-Breaking Vaccination Drive

This Republic Day weekend, Team P.A.W.S. celebrated by delivering the gift of health to the streets of Dombivli. On January 25th and 26th, we conducted a comprehensive Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive across the Palava City region.

Pioneering Street-Level Care in Thane

This initiative continues a legacy of innovation that P.A.W.S. began in 2001. We are proud to be the first NGO in the Thane district to implement street-level vaccinations as a standard protocol. Unlike traditional drives that rely on stationary camps, expecting animals to be brought to a specific location, our strategy is proactive. We go to the animals.

By entering their territories, we ensure that even the most timid, un-catchable, or aggressive strays receive protection, significantly increasing the safety coverage for the entire neighborhood.

Powered by Volunteers

Executing a drive of this magnitude requires an army of compassionate hands. A dedicated team of volunteers and veterinarians worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to make this possible. From skilled handlers who gently secured the animals to the administrative support ensuring every dose was recorded, their coordination was flawless.

Our Partners

This impact was multiplied through our strong alliances with WVS (Worldwide Veterinary Service), Mission Rabies, Palava Rotary Club, and the Rotaract Club of Dombivli East. Together, we are building a safer, rabies-free community for all.
