Paws and Taws members and friends –

 

Dance this Friday is not at Senior Solutions, but rather the outdoor pavilion at McLadke Orchards, 596 Sitton Shoals Rd, Seneca.  Joe Arnold will be calling.  Several things other than "the usual" in addition to the location:

·        No rounds this night.  Joe will be doing a Mainstream workshop at 7:00pm.

·        No admission charge for guests.  Members and guests are requested to bring non-perishable food donations for the food pantry (or a cash donation).

o       Friday, May 24 – Memorial Day Dance at McLadke Orchards with Joe Arnold calling.  No rounds this night.  McLadke Orchards is at 596 Sitton Shoals Rd, Seneca (about 6 miles south from Senior Solutions).  Admission to this dance for both members and guests will be donations of non-perishable food items for the Food Bank.

Paws and Taws members and friends –

 

Joe Arnold calling and Tom Bunn cueing this Friday for the Christmas in July dance.  Early rounds 7:00pm, Mainstream and announced Plus with rounds between tips 7:30 to 9:30pm.  (note that this is NOT a toy donation drive – usual guest fee for non-members.)

 

Paws and Taws will be offering Plus lessons on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00pm starting September 4 through November 6.  Free for members, $5 per person per lesson ($45 total) for non-members.

 

In anticipation of that, we will have Mainstream workshops on Wednesdays in August, again 7:00 to 9:00pm and $5 per person per session.  The goal is additional floor time to become more comfortable with Mainstream prior to beginning Plus lessons.  The format will be regular tips, but unlike dances the ability to stop and review moves as needed.

 

Mike Cox will be instruction both the Mainstream workshops and the Plus lessons.

Join us Friday for Ice Cream, a great dance, and to support our generous host, Senior Solutions.  All proceeds will go toward supporting their programs and the facility.  Tony Simmons calling, Tom Bunn cueing.  Early rounds 7:00pm, Mainstream with announced Plus with rounds between tips 7:30 to 9:30pm.

 

As a prelude to Plus lessons in September, Paws and Taws will be offering Mainstream Workshops Wednesdays in August from 7:00 to 9:00.  Mike Cox will be calling tips like a regular dance, but if and as needed will reset to review calls or sequences that result in breakdowns.  Free to club members, $5 per person per night for others.

Paws and Taws will be dancing this SUNDAY, September 8, with our 20’s theme Flappers and Dappers Dance.  The incomparable Patty Greene will be calling Mainstream and announced Plus from 2:30 to 4:30pm with rounds cued by Mike McDonald between tips and early rounds at 2:00pm.

 

Plus lessons start this week, Wednesday September 4, from 7:00 to 9:00pm with Mike Cox instructing.  He will be available at 6:30 to walk through moves before the music goes on.

Paws and Taws is pleased to announce that the third dance every month will start this Friday, October 18!  Dance format will be different from the 2^nd and 4^th dances:

7:00 to 7:30pm - Mainstream workshop

7:30 to 8:30pm - Mainstream dance

8:30 to 9:30pm - Plus dance

No rounds or lines, just square dancing.

Joe Arnold will be calling.  The Mainstream dancing will especially be directed to those who may have been away from dancing recently.  The Plus dancing is to give the students in our ongoing Plus class additional floor time – not exactly “student level” and only a limited subset of the calls as they have been introduced to all the calls, but will be concentrated on the more common ones.

Swingin' Harts Toy Drive Dance:  Friday, November 15 at Hart County Recreation Center, Hartwell GA, with Bob Morrison calling.  Swingin' Harts will have a toy drive for anyone moved to donate a gift to contribute to a special Christmas for the children.  They will greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity.  It is wonderful to provide a special gift for these disadvantaged children. We are accepting new toys and "clean, unbroken, and slightly used" toys from local thrift shops.   We are such a small group that the dance will still be $6.00 for our guests to help pay for the caller.

The bad news is Southern Lights will not have any dances in December.  Whitmire is not available now and it will not be available for some time.  The good news is we have two venues lined up for next year.  Final negotiations are ongoing.  Unfortunately, they are currently booked with Christmas parties.  Stay tuned.  We look forward to dancing again.  We send our heartfelt sympathy to those affected by Helene and send wishes for a speedy recovery.

Friends, this message tells it all.   PLEASE see that your clubs save the date of February 16 for a benefit for our friends and High Mountain Squares members Doug and Jerie Stoddard, victims of Helene’s flooding.  Thank you for sharing your heart with them!

 

WHAT:    “Heart to Heart” Benefit Square/Round Dance for Helene flood victims Doug and Jerie Stoddard

WHEN:    Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:30pm.

WHERE:  Robert C. Carpenter Community Building, US 441-S, Franklin, NC

WHY:      The Stoddards lost valuable possessions and the use of their house when Helene flooded their property.  They have been living in a motel until this week when they transferred to a FEMA camper for an indefinite time.  Reconstruction on their property is moving slowly.

WHO:     Mike Cox, Randy Ramsey, and Richard Smith will provide continuous square and round dancing.

HOW:     With generosity from your heart to the Stoddards’ hearts.  Generous donations are greatly appreciated!
