Hello to each of you!

It is surprising how fast time can fly when you are busy. Adding to our busyness is a morning at the farmer's market in Des Moines this Saturday, August 8th, from 7 a.m. to noon. If you would like us to bring anything along for you to pick up, let us know. Just give us a call at 641-476-3373 or send an email to:  sp...@heartofiowa.net. We have a lot of activity going on at the moment, so the sooner we have your orders, the easier it will be for us to fill them.

As for our activities on the farm, we have been trying to harvest the small grains for some time now. The wet weather has made it virtually impossible to get into the fields at times. Nevertheless, progress has been slow but sure. Today they are heading out to combine the rye on some rented ground about 10 miles from here. The rye, wheat and oats that we grew on our farm has all been harvested and the straw baled. The yields weren't as good because of the wetter weather, but the corn and soybeans are really enjoying these conditions.

With Daniel's wedding less than 3 weeks away, the men are feeling a little behind. However, next week cousins from Oregon are planning to arrive and give us a little more manpower to work with. That will be the beginning of our visitors for the wedding. The week of the wedding all the rooms in the house and some of the yard outside will be accommodating out-of-town guests. We are praying for dry weather that day since it is an outdoor wedding. We will let you all know how it goes in our next letter.

In the meantime, we were blessed with a little granddaughter. Melody Joy Elisabeth Westbrook was born to Joe and Abigail on July 23rd, weighing in at 7 lb. 8 oz. She has adapted nicely to her new home and her little brother is beginning to think she is pretty special. We are thankful for her safe home delivery. We look forward more than ever to making trips to Des Moines!

May you each enjoy your summer until our visit next month,

Teresa (for the Paul family)
