Spring greetings to all of you!

We have been enjoying some warmer weather finally and are enjoying spending more time outside. The goats have had their kids. I think we ended up with about 32 so far. We have three that needed to be bottle-fed, so they greet us heartily whenever we come into the barn. The sheep are lambing. We currently have nine lambs and 6 ewes still expecting. Three calves have arrived and there are about 7 mothers yet to give birth. The chickens are laying more eggs now that the weather has warmed up and they are able to range farther.

The fields where we have rye, oats, and wheat sowed are a lush green after some timely spring rains and warmer days. We decided the lawn was needing mowing finally last week. Now, the front yard looks like a park with the tulips beginning to bloom and a few trees blossoming. The lilacs are leafing out, but won't be blooming for awhile yet. We are getting ready to plant the corn and soybean acres. We should be able to start planting the soybeans within the next week or so. In the meantime we have barns to clean out and manure to spread on the fields.

We are hoping to find some time to work on our new building after the crops are planted. We have spent some time recycling the steel from our fire last year. There is still a lot of sorting yet to be done as we clean out the ashes. The progress has been slow but sure. One of our daughters is helping with some missionary efforts, so we are missing her, but are thankful she is enjoying her time and seeing some fruit from her labors. Another daughter is kept busy with a nanny job and our third daughter that is still at home is trying to finish up her last year of high school. Our son has his hands full with field work and machinery repairs. We are looking forward to the two that are married coming for a visit in July.

Despite all that requires our attention here on the home front, we are going to venture out this Saturday, May 10th, to the Des Moines Downtown Farmer's Market. We are currently working on the milling necessary to have products to sell at the market, so if you would like to call (641) 476-3373 or email (sp...@heartofiowa.net) an order to be picked up there, it would be helpful to have you contact us as soon as possible so we can work it into our schedule easier. Otherwise, those of you who can, come to the market and say "hello". We will be located in the same area as last year--the south side of Court Ave. on 2nd St., about half way down the block on the west side. We will again have a variety of flours and cereals freshly milled, many whole grains, Sunshine Granola, and some items that our daughters have tatted.

Hoping to see some of you Saturday!!

Teresa (for the Paul family)
