Good Morning to all of you!

We are finding it hard to believe that the month of June is here already. However, when we look back at all that has happened on the farm over the last couple months, we are realizing the time just came and went with all the activities. We have all the kidding, lambing, and calving pretty much behind us. The pigs and a calf will be taken to the lockers next week.Daniel was busy shifting them from field to field for fresh pasture this spring. When they have to be locked in the barnyard for awhile, he diligently chops fresh grass and brings it in for them to munch on. If any of you are wanting to place an order for grass-fed organic beef or pork, now is the time. Our broilers have just 16 days left before they will be butchered. They are really looking good this year. Lydia has taken good care of them.

It is haymaking season also. It has been difficult to find a dry spell for making hay, but we got half of our first cutting rolled up into big round bales. The rains have been very timely for the field crops. They are all looking very lush. The gardens look nice, too. The multitude of blooming flowers and shade trees make the porch swing very inviting these days. Just wish we had more time to spend there! Once in awhile we have a proud mother hen show up her newly hatched brood.

As far as our milling operation, we will be at the Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market this Saturday, the 13th. If you would like to place an order, give us a call (641) 476-3373 or send an email to:  sp...@heartofiowa.net     Placing your orders sooner rather than later helps make it easier for us to get to bed earlier Friday night!

We appreciate your support for what we do here. To God be the glory!
