Greetings!

I suppose all of you are busy winding up another year. We are trying to do the same here. We got the last corn in from the field and dried last week. Now, we can slow down a bit and dream about the plans of another season. We are thankful for the harvest we had from our fields and garden. As is always the case, some crops enjoyed the climate the Lord brought with the summertime and others were a little reluctant to produce much. But, overall we had a bountiful supply of harvested goods. We have them in the wagons waiting to be made into Cornmeal, Oatmeal, 7-Grain Cereal, etc. for you (our customers) as you need them.

Our biggest project of the year was Daniel's wedding on August 22nd. The day dawned with abundant sunshine and light winds with about 75 degrees--the makings of a beautiful backdrop for an outdoor wedding. The week before and the week after the wedding were full of action with all the out-of-town guests. It was nice to have many extra hands to help with the decorating, food preparation and cleanup. Daniel and Amy are settled into their home in Laurel and have been busy with all the fall harvest, etc.

Melody Joy, our granddaughter born July 23, is growing up so fast. She is full of smiles most of time. Her big brother adores her, making life easier for everyone.
Our older son, Joseph, from Arkansas is moving back to Iowa. He is transferring from the FedEx mechanic job in Harrison to the FedEx shop in Ankeny, IA. He starts his job in December, so we will be busy helping them move as much as we can. It will be nice to have them closer.

For those of you that we usually meet at the November indoor Farmers' Market in Des Moines, we don't like to disappoint you, but we are not going to have a booth there in either November or December. However, if you would like to place an order, feel free to call us (641) 476-3373 or email us at sp...@heartofiowa.net. We can try to arrange to either meet you somewhere, ship something to you, or get it ready for you to pick it up here. We are really going to miss seeing everyone.

In October we received a copy of Growing Tomorrow by Forrest Pritchard. In the book he introduces his readers to 18 "heroes" of the sustainable food movement, including over 100 engaging photographs and 50 mouth-watering recipes. One of the 18 farms he visited was ours, so a chapter of the book showcases our farm. Let us know if you would like to acquire one of these books and we can send the ordering information to you.

We will look forward to sharing more with you next year!
