Today is the 50th anniversary of the Birmingham Alabama
Church Bombing. The murder of these four children happened shortly after the
March on Washington. The attached image of the wood sculpture represented
this incident in my recent show Recapitulation: Assassin Series.
The last Klan member that was part of this bombing was not
convicted until 2002.
So many Americans don't know about this significant tragedy
in American history. This event was the catalyst for legislation that helped
move the civil rights movement forward.
The George Santayana quote from his book Reason in Common
Sense sums it up.
"Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to
repeat it," Unfortunately we've repeated this incident in many other forms
and variations - over and over again.
