Genesis 49: 29 - 32; 50: 15 - 26
Matthew 10: 24 - 33
We come today to the end of the book of Genesis. All the Jews in the Promised Land have relocated to Egypt due to the great famine, and they will be staying there for the next few centuries. Their patriarch Israel passes away in peace, happy to have seen his beloved son Joseph.
Joseph once more assured his penitent brothers who had sold him to slavery 40 years ago that he loved them. "You meant evil against me but God meant it for good, to let it happen so many people will be kept alive."
Joseph rose from slavery then reigned in power beside the mighty Pharaoh of Egypt where he saved the Jews from famine.
For the same reason, God allowed all our evil to crucify His only Son. But Jesus rose from death and now reigns in power beside the Father in heaven where He saves all humanity.
Divine Providence is God's wisdom, goodness and power influencing all matters in the world so that the good He intends will be fulfilled. Jesus assures us in the Gospel that not a single tiny bird dies without God allowing it for a purpose, that even the number of our hair was planned.
"Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known." In the end, when time becomes eternity, we will see the grandeur of God's plan, how it progressed in history, and how well we participated in the role intended for us.
Are you suffering today? Confused with life? Afraid of the future?
For us, St. Ignatius of Loyola offers this
PRAYER FOR TRUST IN JESUS
O Christ Jesus, when all is darkness and we feel our weakness and helplessness, give us the sense of Your presence, Your love and Your strength. Help us to have perfect trust in Your protecting love and strengthening power, so that nothing may frighten or worry us. For, living close to You, we shall see Your hand, Your purpose and Your will through all things. Amen.
