I'd never heard of a rope-pump before.

Very moving in so many ways.

Not just as in moving water (heh heh).

Social commentary – more of an aside – off-topic

"We" can just turn on the tap – and water arrives.

These images hark back to an era where people like "us" built and controlled their own water supply using ever so cute mechanical devices built using our own ingenuity. We like the feeling of this thought.

"They" – the people being served up in the images – would probably be happy if they could push a button and out would come water.

The more relevant issue is, perhaps, why don't we all know about this site?

As is so often the case, the knowledge/pattern/guide is out there and available in a twinkling – but we just don't know it exists or have no "Junior Woodchuck Guidebook" that will get us to it.
