Happy Earth Day!
Dry Creek Cleanup (also check out the update on the June event below): A small band of souls braved the 15 minute downpour to strike out onto the banks of Dry Creek and even in the Creek itself! In total, according to the weigh scale at the ACRD Sort&Go Centre (landfill), we picked up 90kg or 198lbs of garbage and debris. Everything from little bits of plastic to a large folding deck umbrella. We went through most of Dry Creek Park all the way to the 10th Ave culvert and then we shifted to the lower portion of the creek from Smitty’s to the railway wye (the small rail bridge near the liquor store).
We saw birds, ducks, and also some local folks trying to live a hard life.
The creek was running reasonably quickly and was too deep to walk across in most places but it was generally agreed that we will return in August when it is drier and we can really get into the bottom of the creek to remove plastics and things that are lodged there. In all though, we were pleasantly surprised that there wasn’t as much in the creek itself as we thought there might be.
Big thanks to Lorelei, Judy, Theresa, Dave, Gail, Jim and a couple others whose names have escaped me as happens too often! :)

May Events! - Our next event will be here before you know it! Mark your calendars for *two* events in May. There will be more info soon about the next event in the AVTTS Series on Transportation on May 22!
Also at the end of May we are working in partnership with an energy transition journalist to put on a talk about —— the Carbon Tax — — and the Energy Transition. It’s going to be exciting! Details are being finalized and we’ll have more on that soon too. It'll be a perfect companion after we look at the road ahead for Transportation in Port Alberni.
June Dry Creek - Panel, QA, Workshop - Planning has begun for the June AVTTS Series event on Dry Creek. If you have ideas and suggestions for what you think you, and the public, would like to see from this event please do get in touch with me. If you’d like to help organize, that would also be greatly appreciated too. Mark your calendars for mid June to talk about the future of Dry Creek in the City of Port Alberni.
Thanks for listening and have a wonderful Earth Day! (Which is every day of course!)
Cheers
Chris
