Disclaimer: What I am talking about is NOT sharing digital copies of Paizo map's. That would be illegal as the maps are not part of Paizo's Community Use Document.

Hey all!

One of the biggest prep issues with playing online is setting up the maps for play. Legal maps for use are an annoyance that I would like to see minimized so that more GMs can get into playing. To this end I have started putting some digital map sets of the PFS Shared Drive (More on that later).
  • Maps are made by me using Gimp and public domain images
  • Compliant with Community Use Document (disclaimer/registered)
  • Decent resolution for online play (50-70 pixels/inch)
If you want to use them for your games go right ahead. They are on the PFS Shared Google Drive. For those who don't know, Thea created this shared google drive which contains a vast amount of community derived material that makes GM prep easier. On the drive you will find handouts, notes, stat blocks for unlisted monsters, trackers, etc. So far I have uploaded maps to both Master of the Fallen Fortress and Dawn of the Scarlet Sun. I will upload maps to We Be Goblins and First Steps part I (Not Part II or II since they will be retired in a few months anyway) next. As you can see, I have focused on free scenarios/modules since that lets new GMs try it out for free.

If you have legal digital maps that you would like to share, I would suggest that you make sure they are compliant with the community use document and upload them to the PFS shared drive.

Thanks and have fun!

... and no uploading maps for Bonekeep to the public share.

As far as I know, Bonekeep is held tight by a few GMs and only run at certain Cons. I agree with you, it has no right being on the shared drive.

I'm running it for GenCon and PaizoCon, and we're prepping replacement maps for it... (full fidelity art improvements), so I figured it deserved a special callout.

I know that usually the pdf's don't blow up to scale well. Ar you upgrading the maps because your going to do high resolution color prints at the table?

Let's just say that the included carto is.... old school.

We're plotting high res color prints, assuming that we get our new plotter configured right.

Thanks!

We be Goblins will be up next.  I finished the Goblin Camp map last night, so people will have something to stare at and move tokens on while role-playing their golinesque celebrations.

Weird idea... Community quest.

Make an new account a drop a scenario or mod and all the fixings, name the account name that name and have the PW be the community name. This way, many scenarios and mods can be ready to use available for the community, espcially useful for mods that use the same flip mats.

I guess this also works for the dedicated DM, you could create multiple accounts to have your scenarios and modules ready to go whenever.

that would be against several of Paizo's site policies if I'm understanding your proposal correctly.

Not to mention that it also breaks federal copyright law.

If I understand right what was proposed it seems possibly viable...

Viable yes.  Allowed under Paizo's rules for PFS no.

I won't bother with the legality questions.

Sorry, in the middle of juggling stuff on my work project. It seems like the shared role account is a legally viable option (with some structural questions on what the access controls would need to be for legality), but license prohibited option - i.e. a  store buying the scenarios to be run there, and loaning and retrieving the hard copies is OK, but there's no permitted-by-Paizo equivalent for online (because we're kinda bound to the PDFs and those have a hard distribution restriction).

It's actually an interesting discussion about how IP is intended to work, but that's far outside the bounds of this group.

Well, a single DM could do this for himself and not have to worry, since it's his 'nest' of accounts with various Scenarios etc on each free account, basically maximizing your prep time and avoid the AOO of spending MORE money.

Now, as a group, i would image the roll20 accounts with 1-2 scenarios would be a copy right thing, however, someone could literally draw the maps, set up the dynamic lighting and have the monster pawns ready and it, by itself, has nothing to do with the module/scenario, since it won't have the actual module or scenario OR the licensed maps. It's up to the DM to still have the source material, such as CRB, MM, and also true would be the module/scenario.

Heck, drawn maps are would save space to effect that you could even fit more adventures in the same account.

im guessing they might have been migrated to pfsprep.com - you could check there

If your issue is taking the maps from the scenarios and setting them up on a VTT, there are a couple of handy tutorial here

I used/use Chris' tutorial for alignment. Almost never have an issue (unless Paizo's grids are off a bit or the like).
