Google Hangout Links permanent?

Hey GM's, am I right in believing that G+ Hangout links persisit? I could totally get into that. If all of my GM tables just use one hangout, I can go ahead and put it in a handout when I'm building the table.

Oh, and I highly recommend putting it in a handout (Roll20). As someone who's scrolled up and down looking for the G+ link before because I dropped connection, I found it very useful the other night to be able to click "Show Players" and give them the link again.

I don't believe so. Usually when I return to such a hangout, it says "This hangout has ended, please start a new one".

I take it back. I just tried the link to my Bonekeep Hangout and it opened right up.

It depends on how you do it.

If you start a Regular Hangout (just a regular chat hangout and launch video) after some idle time it will expire.

If you want a persistent hangout, a workaround to that is create an Event in Google Plus and set it to be an online hangout event.  (Make sure and set the event date sometime way in the future.)  Then click the hangout in the event and copy that URL.  It will not expire until a while after the set event date.

So you will have a semi-permanent hangout URL.

(This is assuming that nothing has changed recently - with Google you never know.)

Something changed with Google about a month or two ago. I noticed it when I started the Hangout for my RotRL group, and it said it was a permanent hangout. Just used the plain Hangout creator, but we have been using the same Hangout for the game when we meet every other week.

Message: "Share the permanent link. Bookmark and come back anytime."

Yeah, that's the message I saw.

I think I'm going to try. Worst case, I test the hangout before the game, and it gives me the oops page, so I update my link. I use tiny.cc, which lets you change the link target, so I can just go to tiny.cc and change the link there without changing the actual link on the page anyway.
