I wanted to rant for a bit about the virtues of slotting ioun stones -
which isn't clear to me that everyone in the group is aware of, and
which I learned of only a couple of months ago myself.

Your basic wayfinder - sold at a 50% discount to pathfinders for a
cheap 250 gp, has a few notable abilities: light spell at will, +2 on
survivial check to avoid getting lost (mundane compass), and it has a
slot for an ioun stone which unlocks a secondary power of the ioun
stone when the stone is placed in the wayfinder. Also see:
http://archivesofnethys.com/gearMagicWondrous.htm#wayfinder-standard

Note that this only works on full ioun stones, not cracked or flawed.

The full list of powers is available in Seeker of Secrets, page 51.
But I'm throwing a few of these out there (the cheap ones)

Clear Spindle 4,000 gp
Standard power: sustains creature without food or water
Unlocked power: Protection from possession and mental control (as per
protection from evil)
Comments: good for the low will barbarian types who can kill any other
part member in one round of attacks.

Dust Rose Prism 5,000 gp
Standard power: +1 insight bonus to AC
Unlocked power: +2 insight bonus to CMB and CMD
Comments: huge for and disarmer/tripper/grappler/etc. +10% more
effectiveness for 500 gp, plus the cost of an ioun stone you're going
to get anyways.

Dark blue rhomboid 10,000 gp
Standard power: Alertness feat
Unlocked power: The wearer no long suffers penalties on Perception
checks for being distracted or asleep; during sleep the wearer may
remained open-eyed and fully aware of his environment, though he is
till helpless against undetected threats until he actually wakes up
Comments: Good for the spot monkeys in a group, although a ring of
sustenance might end up being a better compromise for a druid or
spotting wizard (2500 gp, sleep only 2 hours and still prepare
spells).

I highly recommend picking up seeker of secrets for this reason
alone. Wonderful stuff.

Since I'm going on: I can also recommend picking up some bladeguard
for anyone who has big, expensive swords. This is from adventurer's
armory, and protects from nastiness of rust monsters or rusting
grasp. See: http://archivesofnethys.com/gearMisc.htm#bladeguard

Remember, when you slot an Ioun Stone inside of a Wayfinder, it will
suppress the "light" quality of the Wayfinder.

Standard wayfinders only accept one Ioun Stone, but there are others,
with more slots (see Seekers of Secrets).

Also, if you use the Ioun Stone to slot it, per PFS Rules, you must
use Method 1. Also, you cannot purchase Cracked Ioun Stones in PFS.

Actually, the text is not explicit for the standard wayfinder on if
the light ability is suppressed... Certainly true of other wayfinders,
which do have explicit text. But who cares... Light is easy to come
by. Superpowers for 250 gp are difficult to come by :).

Correct:
Unfortunately, the energy required is such that the magical properties
of the wayfinder itself are diverted to power the ioun stone,
temporarily negating the wayfinder’s normal abilities.

Yep. Fairly pricey, though.

Correct.

Incorrect.

Pathfinder Chronicles: Seekers of Secrets
Everything in this book is legal for play (and considered part of the
core assumption) with one note: ioun stones use method 1 for resonance
and never use method 2. Additionally, only normal ioun stones have
resonance—flawed ioun stones never do.

Flawed is corrected to inferior, meaning all imperfect Ioun stones,
cracked, flawed, scorched or cursed.
