I just wanted to gather a general feel as to how many people here would be interested in a longer term Pathfinder but NON- PFS campaign. I was thinking of running it for a group of friends, but it seems like we may not have enough to go ahead with that plan, so I wanted to make an offer to you guys.

I would like to offer the campaign setting of Ravenloft to you all as a fun longer term game that we cold play. My idea, as the realm of Ravenloft is such a deadly place is to start of with a group of six, level three adventurers and see exactly where the path takes us. This will be done via Roll20, and I was thinking of making this either weekly or semiweekly 4 hour sessions that could run either either late night Fridays or Saturdays. (Perhaps starting around 8 or 9 PM EST depending on preference)

This would take a bit of commitment though. I do not have everything set up, but I am sure this will take several months worth of sessions if not, dare I say, longer. The point of this is to have fun, and due to the open nature of this campaign setting, it could end when we feel appropriate.

Pathfinder rules and PFS characters with slight variations that would be explained to those who are interested. Evil aligned is okay, but if you are going that route LE is what I prefer. Most races and archetypes would be okay as well as long as you tell me which.

So... any takers? If so, please leave suggestions as far as classes go and what days/times you would prefer.

I'm sorry, did I say level 3? I meant 8.

Michael... i just did a survey.. and the no's on non PFS outweighed the yes's rather dramatically

I still intend to run some non pfs stuff... but your walking uphill at the moment...

Another place to recruit players for non-PFS games would be:

and

Either of those will be a good start.

(And sounds fun - good luck with it.)

This actually seems interesting...

*sigh* mastership does have me too damn busy... I just canceled one game and there are problems with the others, so while I will love I pass for now.

Thank you Jesse for the links and thank you Robert for the information. I guess I will have to find victi- er volunteers, elsewhere.

I may be interested in a Ravenloft game but high level Ravenloft? No thanks. Most of the old Ravenloft stuff was written for level 3-8 characters. Many of the domains have darklords who are only 2nd or 3rd level. The whole thing about Ravenloft was that the monsters didn't have extra levels or hit dice to bump them up. Instead they had sneaky funky abilities that monsters in other campaigns tended to lack at the time. Also there were a lot less of them.

I've seen campaigns where people have tried to force high level play on Ravenloft and it just doesn't seem to work. That aside I'd be interested (although I can't say I'm too keen on roll20 at the moment).

I was thinking something along the lines of the Expedition to Castle Ravenloft starting at either levels 6 or 8. 6 is most likely as the characters would be gaining levels throughout

Personally (and I may be getting this wrong) non-PFS to me means more roleplaying and less optimization/rulescrunch/roll-play. Now that I'd do.  Though I'd prefer some more Dungeon-world-esque system if it came to that.

I'm currently running RoW AP on Sundays (for the next 6 months) so a Friday-Saturday game sounds appealing.  Though I do have a couple Saturdays booked already (holiday season charity stuff).

BTW I've *NEVER* played in Ravenloft.  All I know about it is hearsay...and not very positive(energy) at that.  But I'd like to experience it for myself.  They still got Loup-Garou? ;)

This would definitely have more role play with a few dungeons scattered throughout. The setting also makes a few optimised powers rather... interesting. I've played a few sessions myself and watched a few being run. It definitely has that Gothic feel to it. The only thing I may have problems setting up are custom maps that I have to draw out.

Haha, interesting is the least of it.  I've read through a few Ravenloft things.  What I took away from it?  Regardless of how good an idea it seems to play a paladin, don't.

This would have to be put on hold for a while, actually. Unexpected work load decided to come from all directions.
